Liam McBean

Your missing the specific point I made. You are looking at his overall record and I am saying that when he has been confronted with a major opportunity to take a place in the seniors because the team is playing badly and there is a spot for the taking he has been unable to take it.

That might be a reasonable point if Hardwick was consistent with this on selection.

Some here do not want him to play, particularly him succeed.

I sense a little of self preservation, more concerned of their thread/keyboard status.

that contested mark he took a few weeks ago. it was amazing.

Never let facts get in the way of a good fantasy, Harry. From VFL report rd. 4, last game Griff and Bean played together:

Ben Griffiths
Two goals, five contested marks, nine marks, 13 disposals

Started up forward and kicked two goals. We then moved him back and he had big impact on the game there. He took five strong, contested marks and was the dominant big man on the ground. Looks ready for another AFL opportunity.

Liam McBean
One goal, four disposals, two tackles

Had a really quiet, disappointing game, with only four disposals and one goal. Needs to work harder at the contest.

So, Harry, who do you think went up? But you'd reward Beanie for this?

At AFL against Hawks, Griff wasn't great but some good signs; similar game to Vickery statistically but rated ahead on AF points: 58/49. BTW, Hampson = 67.

I don't know of anyone that doesn't want him to succeed. Ridiculous statement.

2 specific examples I have already given. The game that was a virtual play off between him and Griffths in 2014 when Vickery was suspended. Mcbean was poor, Griffiths very good and he got picked and played well for the rest of the season. Again a few weeks ago, Griffiths clearly the better player. This last weekend the same thing.

He needs to want it so much he plays like he is desperate to take it, but it seems he can't.

I am being pushed into sounding like I don't rate the guy which is not true. I just wish he would grab his chance when it is there and show that he wants it. I wish he would actually do what is necessary to be an AFL player, the hard stuff and the easy stuff. If he does we have a player.

Well-posted, Sin. It's difficult dealing with those cursed with messianic delusions divorced from the harsh real world.

I want all our big men to succeed at RFC. They can all improve a great deal. Bean can make it and really want to see him earn his chance and grab it. Wouldn't mind if they rested Jack to really get over that ankle as he stuffed up a lot. We are not going to even make it to 9th this year. What is the point of risking further damage to JR? But, no, it's like dumb and dumber; the brains trust will have us strive for a noble 10th or the like.

All the same, Beanie has to do more; the reports from VFL game against Port were hardly flattering.

As I said earlier in my posts I have no problem with him being picked but just don't pretend his current performances and form warrant that selection.

The fact that he hasn't put his hand up when the spot is his to take worries me about him. He is exhibiting the same traits in the vfl that so many lambast our current big men for and maybe that calls for some consistency as well?

He kicked 5 goals 2 weeks ago and wasn't picked when many thought he should have been?

No intensity - he doesn't look in the slight bit interested which is the most disappointing thing .... and because of this he is missing many opportunities in the seniors

yes and it was actually noted at the time that they wanted to see him back it up and he hasn't fired a shot since. That's the problem

It was more than 2 weeks ago btw, against the Dogs in vfl round 2

Could the Bean be pissed off enough to have accepted an offer to go elsewhere after a staged delisting end of this season (is he only contracted till then, can't remember) ?

Would not be at all surprised if Essendope have been sounding him out. Didn't they want to draft him? Lives with Joey D.

so we should just stick to the perennial failure that is Ben Griffiths?

You are missing the point.

Don't think he is. He was given a challenge and could not step up.

I thought Griffens was ok on Friday. He certainly busted a few packs - and got to more contests than Ty. He is good below his knees too. Just needs to get a lot fitter.

I'm not really on the McBean bandwagon so not sure how much does have to offer the Tigers going forward.
That said, would happily see him selected over Vickery or Griffiths for a few games.
Let's see if this bloke has the potential to be either the saviour or in fact an ordinary player.
Maybe his motivation has been cruelled by lack of AFL time, but there may well be very good reasons why he hasn't warranted that game time.
Anyway, it would be good to see the farce that is McBean ended before he leaves RFC (as seems most likely, reading the tea leaves) at the end of the season.
Maybe he might just make a lot of people swallow their words .....

I think its reasonable that they wanted to see him show some consistency.

That doesn't apply to other players though Ian.

Griff for one has never ever been consistently good. At any level.

And he's racked up 50 games.

I knew that would come up, I agree there should be more consistency in selection.

I refer to my earlier post
