Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

How was a unique creature of his dimensions, ability and potential overlooked 32 times in the national draft?

Of course. We're Tigers and it's in our nature. If he fails then we eat him :hihi

That's funny.

So are we going to call him Hannibal Lecter? With dyslexia, of course!

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

I'm so excited about his form I've got halfa mung meself.

Nickname: Halfa

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

I was most impressed with how well he kicks the ball. He really looks a natural kick and may make his debut earlier than first predicted (4 years :hihi).

We may just have one here peeps. Early call but we can only go on what he's shown. Well done recruiters :)

McBean is about 4 years away from ruck duties, any earlier and we'll be running the risk of putting undue stress on his growing body. He's certainly shown some excellent signs but I wouldn't be jumping the gun about speedy development, particularly given his height and current weight. If he's trialled on a wing as some are suggesting, he'll also need to be running 15km a match, I'm not so sure he's at that level just yet. If he comes in as a third tall, then strength becomes paramount, he was 84kg at the draft camp, he may have packed on some kg's since then, but there's still a fair way to go.

It's been fantastic to see him make such an audacious start to his career but people need to reign in the expectations a little, even Buddy Franklin took 3 years to hit his straps.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Anyone see th straight up the ground and at the ball carrier lead he did for the burgers an Arnott hit him lace out, geez I thought that sought of lead was extinct

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Heard from a person in the know last weekend before the game McBean weighed in at 92kg. Not big enough yet but the person also said if we can be patient we have a winner on our hand. Compared him to Daniher but suggested that in Daniher's final year prior to the draft he was trained to add bulk by Essendon (nothing sinister) so may be 6-12months ahead of our Beanman. Get excited!

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Watching the Coburg highlights, McBean has a swagger about him, runs in to kick at goal like Carey.

I think he's going to be something special. :clap

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

I watched McBean closely on Saturday.

A few things stood out for me;

* He has a beautiful kicking action. Something you rarely see with big blokes.
* His speed off the mark and agility when the ball hits the ground.
* Is not physically intimidated. Numerous times he would walk/run past a Hawks player and would give him a good bump or shove. He was got into Spangher a few times.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

can someone confirm or deny he is a childhood tiger fan? If so, more than halfa, a 3/4y at least.

The 2nd goal he kicked, remember this is a 202cm tall kid, was something you'd expect to see from a Milne or Betts.

Re: mcbean -- birth of a legend

Tim Clark's comments -

Started impressively with two goals and was a really good option for us up forward. Doesn’t yet have the required work-rate to turn this into a consistent, four-quarter effort, but is looking better each week.

Interesting that he gives *Unresolved Nick-Name" a bit of a kick up the arse. :hihi
