All well and good but 35 goals in a second rate comp isnt exactly setting the world on fire. Just saying.

It is when you're getting sub-standard delivery on mud-ridden, windswept suburban parks.

Seriously, you folks need to get down and watch some.

The guy almost won the VFL goalkicking. Judge him against his peers.

A 200cm guy with two seasons under his belt.

And he's the type that would excel in better company.

The calls that Mcbean ain't ready aren't based on any evidence, empirical or anecdotal.

When you have the likes of choco Williams saying otherwise, you kinda need to listen.

McBean clearly has some talent albeit we're only seeing glimpses of it in these past 2 practice games. I hope he plays more minutes next week so we have more to assess him by.
Is he ready for senior footy yet? I'm not convinced. Want to see more proof that he is.

With Griffo back, I reckon Beano won't be in next week and we'll go with a virtual R1 team. McIntosh will probably play.

The reality for McBean is he won't get enough game time or opportunity under Dimma unless the coach gets desperate.

McBean doesn't fit the Dimma template in any way, shape or form.

He's not a brick shithouse, he's a whippet.

He isn't a defensive animal, he's a creator.

He can't relief ruck at AFL level, but he can play small. That confuses Dimma.

He is viewed as a tall or bust but he's actually a marking flanker.

He will not play under Dimma as long as we're on track for finals.

There, I've said it.

McBean will not get his chance to shine at the elite level under this coach.

No doubt he is something. Many before have set the VFL ablaze and never made the transition. All Im saying is that maybe he is a very good VFL player. Nothing wrong with that.
I really hope to be proved wrong. He obviously has the tools but so did Cleve Hughes.

You really think that VFL is a second rate comp ? specially for a kid playing his 2nd year out of TAC cup - wow

Well its not first rate. That's a no brainer. Its second rate. It maybe a good standard but its second rate.

You reffer to it like it was a *smile* league - Its the best state league in australia

Also, a reminder to all the mcbean heretics - NAB games are no good at all for judging a player's ability or form.

Yes, you might be able to identify good form, as we saw with Lloyd, but there is absolutely no way you can call bad form or lack of ability from pre-season games.

You look for structures, set plays, roles etc. etc.

No I don't.
I refer to it as a second rate league. It is what is. It's the reserves and amateurs. Relax.

Geez...long 5 weeks until VFL starts: R1 Saturday, April 18 Coburg v Richmond (Coburg City Oval - 2:00pm)

Come on Cartman, make your mind up, you're bullshitting so hard you've confused yourself.

Two n a bit games of NAB footy n shown sweet fanny adams so far. Kids pretty decent at VFL level but so far has failed to transition anything to off tempo senior footy, not ready just at the moment to take on full tempo senior footy. Don't mind the kid at all n from his levels of performance at VFL level there's easily enough to work with. He's a few years younger than either Griffinator or Elton John n neither of these two are cemented into the seniors. Let him keep working n learning, if he's got decent form during the year or there's some injury issues he'll likely get the chance to put his hand up for some game time. Kids not walking on water just yet n all this McJesus spruiking is flaming ridiculous.

Is there another way we can judge McBean other than on potential because really that is what you are asking to be done.

The fact is that based on performance McBean is playing at the right level, the VFL. Maybe you think that lacks imagination but until I see a few breakout games and i see him demanding something else by performance that is where I think he should be. Obviously so does the Coach.

You think that is wrong, so do a few others and I get that but I reckon it's right. It's really hard to justify playing a player on potential ahead of performance when the Club is aiming for a serious finals tilt.

pretty simple I would've thought.

there are too many non-performers at these practice matches to gauge form and ability.

Vickery a good example, impossible to gauge his current form.

but if you want to base your assessment of mcbean's ability to play elite footy on a coupla NAB games, go right ahead.

armchair wisdom at its finest. keep punching TM :hihi

But his performance over the last two years does merit a debut at the very least. He has shown more than Vickery and Griffiths put together at VFL level.

What more do people need?

People are basing their opinion on three NAB games and the fact our ultea defensive coach hasn't selected him yet, citing nothing else but defensive accountability.

A slim body of evidence indeed.

Yeah im sounding like a broken record ;D

I think lambys shift starts soon.

I reckon there are only two certainties in this discussion.

Liam doesn't have the size to play either key position or ruck.

And 200cm players only play on the flanks on the Internet.
