Kamdyn McIntosh

At the very least plays VFL and sets the standard and provides protection for all the newbies we’re about to recruit.
But I’m suggesting will play plenty of seniors too.
Still better than Banks and Ralphsmith by some margin.
Smart decision to keep him for another year

Given the number of departures, happy to keep Kamdyn on. Mainly for backup, maintaining standards and keeping spirits up. I don’t think Hugo or Banks have cemented their wings yet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us pick up a skilled, quick wingman with one of our picks in the 20s.

I think the other consideration, we're going to finish low next year and need to turn over 3 players minimum.
Kamdyn will be 1. After him, Prestia likely another. Dow if re-signed this year, the next.
It gets a lot less obvious after that as we're now cutting our young fellas.
Big 2025 coming up for folks like Sonsie. Pressure on.

Nothing wrong with spreading the core part of our rebuild over 2 years.
The Lynchman would also be no guarantee to play on after next year. He's had a horror last few years with injuries and would need to show something next year to even consider continuing further.
KMac, Lynch, Presty, age, then Dow, Sonz, possibly a couple of other young blokes will come under the spotlight by the end of 2025 if they don't show a fair bit by the end of next year.

Agree re: Lynch.
If we got near 20 games out of him, I'd think we'd re-sign. But if we got 5....

Was sub how many times? In a side that is the worst in the comp by a long way with major injuries, 11th this isn’t the flex you think it is.

Has never kicked more than 9 in a season and now you expect him to kick 20+ in his final year when he will barely be playing.

Nonsense. Loyal servant who has got every bit of talent from himself but the game has so passed him by. Wasted list spot in 2024.
Not really a wasted list spot. Still have to have a couple on the list destined to go out 2025 when we need to make the compulsory list changes.
He’s still as worthy as the likes of Cotchin who played a year too long when he was flat out getting up to a jog. He was even played hff, hardly on ball, he probably took some pay cuts along the way, so he got his superannuation year. ;)
I don’t think many complained about Cotch playing ahead of young kids…….well I did

Grimes getting the extra year was the disaster we didn't need as he could hardly move in 23.
Not really a fair comparison. Grimesys decline & and injury woes a lot more obvious at the end of 2023. Kam still had a reasonable output this season.

If McIntosh is ahead Banks & Hugo next season that will be a huge concern for them.

11th in the B&F hardly woeful.
Eleven played 19 or more games where did he finish again having played 22. Oh thats right 11th.

One of the strongest deepest drafts of all time and we keep this bloke.
Gunna be interesting how many picks we actually use.

22 mostly ordinary games this year he is already taking games off kids.

Absolutely not better than Ralphsmith or Banks in the back half of the year and every second you play McIntosh your are taking away development.

Absurd to keep him another year. Time is well and truly up.

I don’t think he is, I reckon both went passed him in 2024. His poor disposal was quite evident this year as well.

He is a great club man who will help drive training standards and will play when needed. Not against keeping him.

I reckon Grimes was an extra year of money, to repay him for lowering a previously agreed contract. That stuff happens, and is a way to keep a very good list together during successful eras.
Small cost for that type of benefit overall.

Probably much the same for Cotch. He took cuts in his contract with JR to fit Tom Lynch in.
Cotch went a year too long. JR probably did too, but we didn’t have much choice.

agree and why he shouldn't have been signed up . At least KMAC has a strong and able body.

That's my understanding. Maybe one or two others who extended with a gentleman's agreement for taking a shave earlier in the piece.

This obsessing over players playing a year too long is wrong headed. Fair enough when you have a lot of players doing it, rarely happens, AND you have younger, better players in the wings. But generally speaking with champs like ours, they deserve a lap of honour, they deserve the benefit of the doubt that below their best is still very good, and will bring experience. None of our champs pushed it, arguably Grimes did but was worth a go and didn't affect our planning. The alternative is to knife an aging star who has delivered in spades. To me, its just part of the process, part of having a dynasty. I think we did as good a job as we could have.

Having said all that, I would have cut Kamdyn, but its no major issue to keep. It sounds like it was a close call.

I’ve never said otherwise. I’ve acknowledged they probably got their superannuation/testimonial after taking pay cuts to fit other players in.
But regardless Cotch went a year too long as did Grimes. JR still had some good some poor games!. But we had no one else.
Funnily enough “you don’t knife an aging star” but that depends who it is as well, whether their contract is up. Ie Houli was straight out. You could see Grimes and Cotch struggling the year before. Grimes got another year, not that form deserved it. But was he one that took a pay cut like JR and Cotch? If so I think the agreement was less money but another year added. We honoured that agreement.

Always fun to make up your own argument and then rail against it.

A) Of course he's never kicked near that number. He's played his career on a wing.

B) I don't expect him to kick 20 plus next year. I think he could if he played 22 games at half forward. Possibly more. Tall, repeat leads all game, strong overhead, blocks the get out option, and kicks long and straight. Great mindset when kicking at goal too.

But I don't think he will do that. I don't think he'll play more than half the season, and he won't spend all that time forward
I think he'll be used when and where necessary.

He will have a huge amount of value to us, as a plug and play anywhere to take the load off the kids, as an on field leader, as a standard setter.

There was talk of recruiting solid citizens to help with the youth. You can't get a better citizen, or one more solid, than Kamdyn.
