Justice?

If we dont care what another country does ,then lets get the hell out of Iraq,timor,and the solomons.Lets not stick our nose into anybodys elses business.

I was waiting for that..... :clap

That is the ironic thing I am hearing from people like SixPack.

They protest our interference in the Mid-East, yet want us to get stuck into Burma.
They protest about giving Islams a go and we should be respectful to gay people.....yet Iran executes gay people under their Sharia law.
They protest about us having to understand and respect other cultures (see Racial Tolerance thread for pages and pages of it), yet want to pressure other countries to conform to OUR morals and ideals.

It is hypocrisy of the highest order....and I'm glad you brought it up Barty Boy.

It showcases what a joke the left-wing really are.

I would merely point out that in a global economy,its impossible to not be involved.we have many companies doing business across the globe,we are members of countless international organisations,our people are found across the globe.this being the case then I would assume we cant be innocent bystanders in the global happenings........whether we like it or not we are up to our necks in it.
sorry guys this not about justice so i shall try to get back on topic

That's true mate....we are part of the global community and a global economy.

But how is Indonesia (or any other country) having the death-penalty interfering with our economic ties with them?
The USA has the death penalty in various states and they are one of our closest allies.

We have our fingers in the global pie....but we don't need to shove our neck in it as well.

You make a lot of assumptions and generalisations, Livers. 'People like sixpack' Whats that supposed to mean?

All these 'theys.' Who are 'they?'

And I'm a hypocrite? I'm merely talking about capital punishment. I dont believe in it. Lots of people don't. Australian law forbids it. Who is out of step here?

I'm a joke and a left winger?

Really, Liverpool, you have no idea who I am. you can besmirch me with all these generalisations if you like, but really you have no idea.

And, we are part of a global community. We are all in this together.

I'm more than happy to post some of your infamous quotes to back-up what I have said, if you like?

We are part of the global community...yes...but that doesn't mean they have to conform to OUR laws and ideals, does it?

Stop being ridiculous. Where did i say they have to conform?

try and keep yr mind on this particular issue. I said i am opposed to capital punishment. that means everywhere for everyone.

However, i concede that if u break the law in a country and the punishment is capital punishment then you are buggered.

That doesnt make it right.

capital punishment really does seem a barbaric way of dispensing justice.I know we get calls in australia for its re introduction,surely the political leadership doesnt seriously entertain this .....does it?

How can a society say murder is wrong, when you have state sanctioned murder under the guise of capital punishment?

The justice system is far from infallible, what do you say when you execute the wrong person whoops?

These countries may deem it "right" though.

I agree 100% with you that if you break the law in a country that has capital punishment, then that is bad luck, and you have to abide by their laws....and therefore, instead of Rudd McClelland saying that the ALP will protest and campaign against these country's laws....we should simply abide by them to begin with, and we won't have a problem, will we?

I'm all for capital punishment for crimes that are abhorrent and there is no doubt whatsoever to the person who committed these crimes.

Some I would like flick the switch for:

* Martin Bryant
http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial/bryant/

* Ivan Milat
http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/predators/milat/discovery_1.html

* John Sharpe
http://www.theage.com.au/news/National/Child-murdered-because-she-was-a-witness/2005/06/06/1117910235358.html

* Julian Knight
http://www.bananasinpajamas.biz/news/stories/2007/08/09/2000820.htm

Trust me Barty Boy....me flicking a switch and being classed as a "barbaric way to dispense justice" is nothing compared to what these animals inflicted upon innocent people and children.

Ever looked closely at the circumstances behind the crimes Milat was convicted for committing Livers?

Please don't tell me you're going to come up with some conspiracy theory that it was Jewish right-wingers connected to the CIA who did it? ;)

School of thought his sister was involved as well but died before they could gather enough evidence.

IMHO he had help, he did not work solo

And I am not denying that. But I think it's wrong and Australia thinks it wrong and it is right and proper that our elected representatives protest about it.

Don't pre-empt, just answer the question mate.

Disco,
Please enlighten me.

Why do we need to protest about it?
As long as we are o.k here, I couldn't give a stuff how many drug-traffickers Vietnam shoot each day....so why do we need to protest about this?
Who cares how many drug-traffickers get hung in Singapore.....what is it do with us, that we have to protest?
We should be thanking them.
It isn't our right, it isn't our business.
Just live and let live, i say.
We do our thing, and they do their thing. Full stop.

If you don't believe in capital punishment, that is your right.....and you can protest all about it if we ever get it here, as that IS your business then....but for what happens over in China with their criminals.....who cares?

well I'm off to bed and I'll be sure to check for those darn commies which reside under it.thanx for the discussion this evening guys its been great

Livers, I don't want to enlighten you. I'd just like to know how much information you need about a case before you're happy to flick the switch.

So, have you ever looked closely at the circumstances behind the crimes Milat was convicted for committing?

It is mate....why do you care if Vietnam knock-off some Vietnamese drug couriers?
How is that affecting Australia so much, that we need to protest?

(And don't use my rolly-eye smiley without asking for permission first... :hihi)

If you are just going to ask questions that you refuse to even answer yourself, then stop wasting everybody's time.

I don't care about the circumstances behind it...I don't care if he was abused as a boy...or his teacher yelled at him...or his teddy-bear got lost when he was 3 years of age.
If he had an accomplice then they are very lucky to have got away....but Ivan certainly was a main contributor to the deaths of 7 innocent people...and if he was a good citizen, he wouldn't even be a suspect, would he?
So don't start making excuses now Disco...
