Juniors to watch - 2012

Any midfield names we should be keeping an eye out for Scoop?

Very early doors but I would keep a eye on Troy Menzel (brother of Cat Daniel). Troy is a true midfielder, who has great skills, smart with the ball and still has the Menzel X-Factor. Ben Kennedy is another. True rover. A lot like Devon Smith but a little classier.

But at this stage I really like Nick Vlastuin. In the Jimmy Bartel mould as mid. Not super quick or super gifted but just knocks up the footy and is a super kick.

A lot of names will bob up over the coming months. But we must go mids with this years picks. Week after week we are getting shown up for class.

Phanto, one for you to keep an eye on. Will Langley (coached him for cricket) from the Falcons/ Geelong Collage, hes bottom age playing in the backline i believe. Hes as hard as a cats head(farm boy), good skills and a great kid. Was talking to somebody from the Falcons and they think hes a beauty.

Thanks, that's ...

Will Langley, Geelong Falcons, 16, 176, 70, Small Defender

I read something on Mayes the SA HF. Apparently just oozes class, superb hands, kick, pace. A little short for HF at around 185.

Wouldn't mind all 3 of them without getting too selfish. :hihi
With a bit of luck we could snag 2 of them.

Menzel kicked 5 in a half in the European game the other day too.

Thats a handy three to keep an eye on. Will be interesting to see how Kennedy goes, has some serious ability that one.

I remember you rating Kennedy last year, his performances as a under age state player are something to admire. I would expect him to dominate the champs this year.

But no doubt there is a lot talent to look over. If we are ever to go six or seven picks deep this is the year.

Saw a pick of Kennedy getting his Glenelg jumper & he doesnt look like he has grown
so not sure how that will sit with recruiters but plenty of talent in that small package.

FJ has his work cut out this year for sure.

To give you an indication of what Ben is capable of watch this:

I have been told that this kid has been spoken to by Richmond (and one other club but I can't remember who)

Jason COOKE 06-Feb-95 181 68 Calder Cannons

He's only 17 and would probably be picked up by GWS to on-sell but might be another one to keep an eye on. In the AIS squad.

No luck involved in that kick. Class.

Anyone know about Tanner Smith i think his name is KPD.

Yep I do craig, I have a match day role with the Rebels so saw quite a lot of him last year. Long and lean but IMO very much in the mould of Alex Rance at a similar age. Main difference is probably Smith doesn't dash as much off the half-back line, is more of a stopper but is probably better by foot than Rance. Very dependable and the coaches know that they will get a consistent performance out of him week in, week out. Every chance to go top 20-25 in my opinion. In the AIS squad so hasn't played a TAC game this year due to his AIS duties so haven't had the opportunity to see if he has grown or gotten bigger/better just yet.

Possibly worth looking at as another developing KPD Skipto he may be a possibility at our 3rd pick hopefully.

2 gun mids then a specialist tall key defender would be a good result with first 3 id reckon.

Thanx Skipto.
