Josh Caddy

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

He is our 2nd tall forward.

I thought he has been a very good pick up for us.

Had he played last week we would have won.

Could he be our third tall forward rotating mid.... need a 2nd tall, hes being played as such think he would make a good 3rd tall rotating mid...

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

If he had more courage (yeah yeah, keyboard warrior) He'd be a great player.

Watch him closely, he wont put his body on the line.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Think we have lost a bit of the forward team play to create/share/unselfishly.
Might be due to a few reasons, players tiring, carrying niggles, playing for spots etc

To Me Caddy seems to have brought a selfishness to the group that needs to be nipped in the bud.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Caddy in combination with KMac in the team adds an element we've really missed since the retirements of blokes like Tuck and Jackson. Just general toughness to use pure brute grunt to force the ball forward. Was the price for Caddy a bit on the high side? Probably yes. That would be my only complaint. But we're a better side with him in the squad (especially in combination with KMac).

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Like Caddy is getting better by the week, needs to stop flying against Jack though.

I can see this at times, TM.

Against Freo. Last quarter. We'd missed a couple. Jack took a right-foot shot on the run (IIRC) from about 40m, left-footers side. Caddy was eight metres clear of everybody at 25m almost dead in front. Jack burned him cold and missed. Caddy was in his field of vision. Jack took an immature shot. Or a responsible shot if he'd nailed it. But it was a poor percentage shot. It was orthodox to hit Caddy.

Might have been the third quarter against Esserden. Ball in the air to Caddy front and left of the spot, Jack right and rear. Jack better position but the only player who could screen. Caddy turned around and looked at Jack. No doubt. They both flew for the ball. No doubt Jack should have called.

If there are no names involved it is absolutely orthodox for the player behind to screen. They were in miles of space. It was Jack's if he called and he certainly should have. It's possible he took Caddy's deference for granted. I'll check when I watch the replay.

Caddy took the mark anyway. And calmly missed, as expected.

In 2017 both Jack and Caddy have been poor in front of goal at times. But at 27.17 and 9.8 each for the season it's clear Jack is the boss. And vice captain. Caddy should have deferred to Jack in that marking contest. He will have been reminded of that since. None of this is a hanging offence BTW.

On the disruption. I like it. This Richmond has been a bit too settled for a bit too long. We're bringing in players with the ability to challenge the pecking order and establish themselves. Shai is going to do this. We re in flux in 2017. There will be disruption, little spot fires, because people get dropped and new people get fat contracts.

It's not cosy at Richmond these days. There are challengers.

Agree, and there are many more examples from Saturday night alone.

I understand that must be grey areas, it is not just if a player kicks the goal, then Kudos to him for taking the responsibility, or if the player misses, then he is selfish.

Just saying that we had a great start to the season as a frantic forward group, that now seems to have become far more individual.
The scoring stats bear that out, and we need to be scoring more to win finals.

There are several reasons for it, one of them is selfishness, which needs to be addressed.
Caddy also works for his team mates, he just seems to be involve in many of the 'selfish' plays in which Richmond do not end up scoring a goal.

You're onto this, TM.

You don't get to be a three-club player through diligence. Caddy *smile* up a dozen times on Saturday. If we can get him to work harder and smarter maybe he's got more upside than I thought. I'm finding his routine errors strangely encouraging. Possible upside.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

There is going to be a time when Caddy et al kicks straight and we absolutely light it up, its not happening now but it doesn't necessarily need to. When the business end of the season comes lets hope the touch & timing is right then and who knows whats possible!

Getting better each week from my perspective, does a lot of blocking for teammates that may go unrecognized?

its what i was getting at when i said he was good, bad, and sometimes ugly. there's a player in there, just needs to iron out some issues. i don't really 'get' where he's at, and maybe he doesn't yet?

Yeah not sure either.

Saw him burn team mates, then work really hard, both ways, to do the team things.
Saw him have a go at second gamer Shai for not hand balling to Caddy instead of snapping (Betts like) from tight in the pocket...... and then ignoring teammates in a better (certain goal) position ....and missing.

And yet, we won, he should have kicked six ..........but we kicked twice as many points as goals and wasted umpteen inside 50's by not working cohesively.

I agree. I don't rate caddy much at all.
