Think we have lost a bit of the forward team play to create/share/unselfishly.
Might be due to a few reasons, players tiring, carrying niggles, playing for spots etc

To Me Caddy seems to have brought a selfishness to the group that needs to be nipped in the bud.

??
He has been there all year. You want us back like last year..? Footy is not a perfect science. It's a new club for him, and a new game style for the club. I don't see what you are saying at all re the selfishness

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

the VFL is full of ordinary, limited players (relative to AFL).

Choccas.

To play in the ones, you need a special trick that differentiates you. Speed, a monster hoof, super toughs, vice mitts, size, smarts etc.

Caddy has strength. He's a brute.

Thats why he's valuable.

Agree ET. It's not a stretch to say that had he played against the Giants, we might be 7-3.

Agree, and there are many more examples from Saturday night alone.

I understand that must be grey areas, it is not just if a player kicks the goal, then Kudos to him for taking the responsibility, or if the player misses, then he is selfish.

Just saying that we had a great start to the season as a frantic forward group, that now seems to have become far more individual.
The scoring stats bear that out, and we need to be scoring more to win finals.

There are several reasons for it, one of them is selfishness, which needs to be addressed.
Caddy also works for his team mates, he just seems to be involve in many of the 'selfish' plays in which Richmond do not end up scoring a goal.

I think you may be overplaying the selfishness bit. We have to remember this is a very new look forward line. Most of it has not played together as a unit before this year. Along with the new game style it takes time for players to understand each other. This will only get better. I have seen many acts of selfless plays this year from Caddy that has allowed Reiwoldt a free run at the ball. I like the new structure very much, the biggest thing lacking is tall structure, we desperately need that 2nd quality tall forward.

And yet our inside 50 conversion % has gone backwards.
Not saying it is all Caddy.
Just saying I would be talking to the boys about sharing and caring.

Geelong built a successful forward culture on all running to congratulate the assisting player, rather than the actual end goal kicker.

I say that's predominantly because we haven't been as well structured height wise more than anything. It's a lot less efficient having to crumb for a higher proportion of your goals. I saw for example, Caddy putting in a beautiful shepherd at the end of the game to allow a shot at goal for a team mate. I really don't think the players are that selfish to not congratulate assisting players when a goal is kicked. What makes you say that? To me the bigger issue is not selfishness it's our often haphazard entries into the forward 50.

I am not explaining myself well.
We seem to have gone from emphasis on 'team' goal scoring to 'individual' goal kicking.

Way too many examples last game of team mates not being used by hand and foot, and goals missed because of it.

Might be the coaches instructions to take the responsibility, might be knowing Butler/Lennon etc are waiting in the wings, might be world peace, but something has changed.

Personally I just want the goal kicked by anyone, and the team celebrate.
If we are going to miss an opportunity, miss it from overuse rather than burning teammates in a better position and taking the low percentage shot.

Yeah not sure about that. I prefer less stuffing around and letting the better goal kickers have a ping when the opportunity arises. The top clubs look for these players to kick the goals. Opposition press so hard these days that over use will often lose an opportunity. Many of our on-the-run kicks for goal last game just missed or hit the post. I don't see the selfishness myself.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

put it through the big sticks whoever you are. Caddy missed a few at Dreamtime, so did Jack.
Caddy seems to divide opinion on here, i think that's because he's a country footballer with skills and a bit of vision. that makes him okay.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Another strong game. A lot of grunt work that goes unnoticed. Definitely been a positive addition.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

He isn't a 2017 midfielder. He is totally useless at centre bounces

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Milked the 50 which was good..as stated does a lot of good and a lot of bad. Always going to look slow, we all know that.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Its not just his pace. His endurance seems to be below standard too. He's too big. Needs to lose about 4 kilo's.

Didnt he leave Geelong cause he was getting squeezed out of the midfield by Selwood/Danger and was looking for more opportunities ? This guy is going around in circles...

I go further than that and say he is a liability in the centre. Too slow and dumbly in there

When he loses his feet, It's all over you could watch lord of the rings twice before he gets up again.
Andrew underwood clone.
The only thing I see him having is footy smarts. He bumps, he blocks, he sheppards

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Can't all be Martins or Cotchins, not a star, however playing consistent and reliable, better team with him in it.
