Jack Watts

Interestingly the crash happened back on September 20..the he 'retired' on the 24th.

The Power have been very quiet on this one. Stinks.

He sideswiped a parked car and failed to report it to the owner or the police. He's been charged with "driving without due care".

Not great but it's hardly Watergate.

I think you've missed the point. Imagine if he played for RFC; would have been front page and TV news sensation and outrage. The club that's self-destructing with huge internal cultural issues.
Instead, under carpet. Media indifference. Where's Fox/Gerard/Gawwy etc and co? o_O

Misbehavior of AFL players in Sadelaide not arousing the same ongoing, sensational and exaggerated media coverage of us because a player's wife got a facial, two young players absconded for a kebab and some stupid horseplay in the change-rooms.
No laws broken. No criminal charges in play. How would you feel if it was your car he smashed, then drove off?

Wow. Sounds like some genuine problems in player culture for Sadelaide teams to me. Both clubs had Covid breaches too, with PA in the finals.

Surely justifies a media frenzy.

Wattsgate then?

Jack is (was) a contracted player for season 2021. He negotiates* a payout of his 2021 contract with Port & the media release is a ‘my body has let me down’ woe is me angle. A week later reports emerge he was actually in a car accident & left the scene (why?), 4 days earlier before he announces his retirement..the case is now before the courts..
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see that this has been a carefully stage managed production from the top down to avoid being a distraction for Port during their finals campaign. Former Port player in hit & run is far less of a headline than a current one. As said though imagine if this was Richmond given some of the OTT media scrutiny for far smaller incidents this year. Stinks.

What if he was ‘intoxicated’?.
Crashed into a car.
Left the scene so he isn’t breath tested?
Informs PA. They keep quiet.
Retires days later..

Is your point that because Richmond incidents get blown out of all proportion and our people get unduly pressured, scolded and stressed, then we should be upset if it doesn't happen to other players and clubs? They got lucky in that Watts was done anyway. They played it perfectly. Good for them. Let's learn from the Richmond situation and ignore it for the non-story that it is. Moving right along...

He should’ve smashed his car into a kebab shop and get assaulted by a drunk.
