Pretty big knock on FJ Baloo. Need to stop laying into the club.

One day you'll realise that not everything the club does is right. People like me often know better.

Frawley is just About the only one worth poaching

Frawley, Jones, Trengrove, Grimes, Sylvia, Howe, Viney and Clarke would all be worth looking at with Toumpas, Tapscott, Jamar and Blease also worthy of consideration.

Yes Melbourne are a Cancer atm but I remember thinking that of the Tiges not so long ago. I even asked Jack about it a few years ago and I was delighted to see that he took exception to that suggestion. The Dees need a Jack desperately. Ironically Frawley was taken one pick ahead of him and usually stitches him up.

Worst team I have ever seen.
Since 2000 the Dee's have had 33 draft picks who never played a single game and another 9 who have played 5 or less.

Have us cover well and truly!

Except that no one cares about them, so that sort of stat is not newsworthy.

:hihi yep. Sh!t me today watching the Dees and hearing the excuses Eddie was making for them. On the flip side everyone was having a ball at our expense back in 2010.

Scully 11 touches, full game. No pressure.

Watts 12 touches, subbed out, dropped, all the pressure.

Number one picks at Melbourne. It's a club thing.

Scully the million dollar dud, unbelievable that he's one of the highest paid footballers in the league.

But back on Melbourne, when was the last time they actually nailed a first round pick? Probably Frawley but then again, Jack went the pick after so a Pyrrhic victory of sorts.

So in ten years and oodles of top ten picks they've almost squandered every one of them. And to make matters worse, one of their better selections in Brock McLean ended up costing them half a million in tanking fines.

Thank god I don't support them, I reckon I would have thrown the towel in by now.

I think the error occurs because of the competitive nature of heights and weights from TAC to AFL.

A 194cm forward has a definite height advantage in the TAC, but when they arrive in the AFL, the height advantage isn't there, and usually there is a weight disadvantage for the junior recruit.

As we see in VFL today, a Stringer at 191cm, 92kg, good height & weight, with good GROUND skills as well as marking skills, and very good creative and kicking skills, is the one with the talent to break through into AFL.
Time will tell whether Stringer will make it.
Not sure Watts played much TAC if at all Phantom. Pretty sure he just played school footy the year he got drafted, got to cruise through n shouldn't have been any higher than a late first rounder. Dees have done him no favours by feeding him to Scumwood in his first game then simply letting him float through his first few years.
Only watched the first three qtrs but that Stringer kid appears to have plenty of tools for AFL footy.

It's a bloodbath of draft picks.

But I don't remember after any draft thinking "Gee the Demons butchered that". It's about what you do with them once they arrive. The Dee's as you rightly say, haven't got someone and made them better. Even Morton, he is what he is but I thought he would play an outside role and be a ok core footballer. His drop off is staggering. Same with Trengove. He looked like a star in his first year.

What happened????

Reported on mmm this morning in adelaide that the crows are already in watts ear about a move to Adelaide next year. Another diabolical decision by the crows. Tambling, Graham, watts!!! Jesus, they had a go at us on our recruiting in the off season!

That's actually an astounding stat.

They just have absolutely no development, or at the very least the players lack so much confidence playing the 'Collingwood lite' game plan under Neeld. That requires elite fitness and a fanatic desire to chase, tackle and harass. The Dees have none of that, and the players seem to be just totally lost for any handle as to how to play.

Exactly Scoop.

Fact is Jackson would have taken Watts at pick 1. He would also have taken Tapscott instead of Griff if we had a pick one slot earlier.

The same can be said for nearly every early pick they've taken. They all would have went early in the draft to an AFL club.

The poor blighters that got taken got the short straw is all.

There is a massive disease at that club.

One question for those that wish to answer. Where would Tom Hawkins career be if his old man played for Melbourne? Think about that.

There's a good article on AFL.com about nature versus nurture, which basically tracks the careers of Duncan, Bastinac and Trengove. Trengove started off like a house on fire but has gone backwards at a rate of knots, the other two are knocking on the door of elite status.

In the case of Trengove, I can only assume it was too much, too soon. Being given the captaincy so early was crazy, as was the enormous workload placed on him from day one. It was always going to end in tears.

It is astounding but very unfair to point the finger at neeld prior to 2011 since he has only been there for a couple of years. I think you have to blame the shocking culture and development coaches since 2000.

Should have gone NicNat.

Maybe they can trade Watts at seasons end for a 4th rounder - then maybe the AFL can give them another 1st round pick as compensation.

Melbourne in no different position to the tigers a few years back.

Tigers it is possible to rise out of the mud. Need to be smart, disciplined and a unified/qualified team.

I think they would be better off dumping neeld within a month and test out Craig for the remainder of the year to see if he has the required vision to develop and build a list.
