Jack Watts

I'd take the punt on Jack.

Should be played like a young Andrew Embley. Running around off a half forward flank/wing.

No doubt he will move on from Melbourne and become a good player. Not elite but a core footballer. I didn't think Watts was worthy of the number one pick at the time, I would have taken Daniel Rich at the time. I thought he was a safer choice than Nic Nat. Looking back, that was wrong. I also wanted Ziebell ahead of Vickery.

Is he a free agent next year?

He hasn't been there for 2 weeks let alone 8 years. How would he be a free agent?
He is just out of contract, that's it..

Just hasn't been developed correctly. Same issue as many others, doesn't have the natural intensity. #1 draft pick looks like a mistake now but he still has some decent skills and could play a decent role in a good team. Wouldn't want to pay overs for him though. Couldn't be a wrose pick than Miller or Maric.

If Watts gets out of Melbourne & goes to a club that can rebuild his confidence & get his body in shape he'll will be a good long term footballer at the very minimum, possibly a lot more.

Dont underestimate how the current environment is holding footballers back. Ricky Petterd couldnt get a game last year & has pretty much walked into our side & he has less ability than Jack.

Watch Colin Sylvia carve it up next year at whichever club he ends up at as well.

I agree, he just needs to get the Melbourne stink off him

I Knights doesn't work out I think Sylvia would be a decent mid priced free agent. He has more natural goal kicking ablity than anyone on our team not called Jack.

What do you guys think about getting into Frawleys' ear?

With our team starting to mature maybe we could start trading draft picks, say a second round pick and a player for Frawley?

Thought the same, but recruiting Chaplin may have left little room for Frawley.

I expect Watts has been too Melbourned, as Tambling was too Richmonded.

I reckon Richmond were tamblinged rather than Tambling Richmonded myself. Being Richmonded hasn't hurt Lids. Personally I reckon sometimes young players are overly hyped and suject to positive whispering campaigns, Watt and Tambling were. Worked out alright though with the trade that kept on giving.

I don't know, I reckon it was more a case of Lids being good enough to come through the Richmonding mostly unscathed (was touch and go when Rawlings took over). The record of players surviving the era isn't pretty.

FJ may have been a bit biased with Watts being a Brighton Grammer boy.
*has heaps of talent but only showed it at APS level
* is a cat of the highest orde
* is always looking to get loose rather than be a genuine target...see cat reference
* would need remedial work to rebuild him, is damaged goods and fair chance he is gone for good ala Tambling

All things being equal I wouldn't go anywhere near him. The only Melbourne player I would consider is Lyndon Dunn.

Would be a gun in the right system. Melbourne is a cancer. Even guys like Trengove have gone backwards and look poor. This was a kid tearing up the SANFL as a 17 year old. It's development.

Dud of the highest order. He IS melbourne imo. He just encapsulates everthing about the Dees to a tee. I would go to bed sick for days if we recruited him.
