Jack Ross

I'm not at all surprised by him being dropped. We have too many similarly paced players. He's too slow/poor kick for an outside role. The balance has been off.

Been calling for Banks to come in for him for a while now.

Ross is at the crossroads IMHO.

As a Ross fan, tend to agree. Pickett is better on the wing than Ross - he needs to find another role, and that's gonna be hard.

Geez, you were big on him at the start of the year. You’ve changed man…you’ve changed.

Thought Ross was drafted as an inside mid but instead we’ve played him off HB Wing HF Wing & Wing
Hope when he’s back playing VFL he is played as a mid

I like Ross but just not sure of his role. He's like a good solid off-road ute but not sure if it's the car of choice on the bitumen

I changed after the club said they saw no future or evidence as an inside mid. Seen enough body of work now.
Well, I did say to you at the time that if he didn’t develop an inside/contested game he’d be in trouble.

As an extension of that, dunno why the club hasn’t tipped into him with a different role ie full on midfielder. He’s not quick but he has a big enough tank to do it. To this day the Oakleigh people reckon we’ve got it all wrong with Ross. He was an inside mid with them and that’s his best spot. But for whatever reason, we’ve never really developed him at all in that position.

Bizarre.

I'd say he was a manchild as a kid and doesn't have the hands and quick reactions needed for the role at the top level, at least not ahead of Taranto, Hopper, Prestia, Cotchin, Bolton or Martin.

I couldn’t agree more, we have certainly done the young bloke no favours at all with the way he has been played.

Yep. The club would have truckloads of data on JRs ability as an inside mid outside of what we’ve seen on game days at snr level. Whether it be at VFL level or as you point out in match simulation against our best midfielders. No doubt they’ve tried it. That’s the role he was drafted to play. However it isn’t going to get any easier for him (or us) at AFL level if they don’t think he can win the hard ball. If anything Dow has shown better signs as a young clearance player. Unfortunately he too has flaws.

If Ross leaves at years end and goes on to become a good inside mid at another club then criticism might be warranted but until then have to back the footy dept’s decision on this.
