Jack Ross

He is soft in contact

This is the one for me and is an equal dealbreaker along with his kicking.

He's a tough kid, no question, but he crumples in the contest all too often. Been happening since day 1 and hasn't gotten any more consistent in this area.

If anything it's more egregious than the disposal issue.

I haven't noticed a massive disposal issue - his delivery into F50 is better than many in our squad. His problem is that he's vanilla, AFL standard at many things but not really elite in any categories. Has a contract for one more year IIRC - I'd be interested to see if he gets more of a gig in a post-Cotchin midfield or not.

I think JR is contracted next season ? I doubt he’ll be at Punt rd though , been dropped a ridiculous amount of times now.

It’s a tough gig to usurp Cotch, Dusty, Dion, Taranto, Hopper, Shai and others since Ross started. You get a rotation on the ball or you’re in position that doesn’t naturally suit you ie wing. No Cotch next year opens the door a bit. He’s contracted for next season, make it or it’s off to the Suns or the Saints or……West Coast!

Funny player is Ross. 5 years and 50 games into his career and it’s clear he’s too good for the VFL but only average at best at AFL level. Not talented enough for a front line player but also struggles as a role player because he doesn’t really have any standout aspect to his game.

First three games are still probably his best three games which is a bit damning.

You can’t spell crossroads without Ross

very good point re: standout attribute.

i can understand why some have Ross above Ralphsmith for instance, but I rate Hugo because he gives you at least one AFL attribute - break-the-line pace. this one is important in the current tactical landscape.

yeah, I also get that Ross can run all day - perhaps that's his best offering and it's a damn good one. unfortunately, that will only get you so far. AFL players need at least one attribute that helps in the moment, with ball in hand IMO.

Tigers warming up in the VFL and Ross is not there. Perhaps will be the Sub?

All footballers are faced with the challenge of getting the *smile* ball.

Nobody is stopping Jack Ross from putting his head down and getting the ball. He can do it all game long.

For 90 minutes a week for 50 games the simple challenge of getting the ball has been in front of Jack Ross.

The club hasn’t told Jack Ross to keep going where the ball ain’t. Twinkle-toes can muck in any time he’s ready.

But he plays outside. Slow? He can go with anybody over 20m with some contact. He can 360 on a trey. Without breaking stride.

Ball use? Jack Ross sends the ball to where our player ought to run. He has vision and a plan for the ball.

His hands are sure. But not all of him is sure.

We’ve developed this one from a pup. He still has very good traits but no dirt under his fingernails.

Back to the Magoos to play behind the ball again? We’ve done that. It somewhat improved the youngster’s fragile confidence. But here we are.

The challenge for Clean Knees Ross is the same as it was when we recruited him - there’s the ball, Jack. Go and get it.

Hell be the perfect sub,

If we find ourselves too quick, too clean, too surgical, too accurate in front of goal

And our 1:1 wins getting away from us

The character of this kid stood out tonight. Responded to being dropped that way you want a player to respond.

One of his best games for the club tonight.
