Ivan Soldo

Sold a competes at every contest and gets his share of hitouts.
He has been adequate and makes our structure so much better.
Elton cannot ruck and is not much of a forward...one goal I am aware of.
Play Soldo now and for the future. I think he will be ok.

Elton can't ruck. Simple decision.

Forget the ruck. If we are smart enough, our mids can feed off opposition ruck. We need strength in attack for finals.

Agree. Elton is no forward powerhouse but Soldo hasn't offered anything up forward or down the line. Elton can at least make a contest which is important.

We're stronger in attack if Soldo is in the middle and Nank is forward, than if Elton is forward.

We're also stronger in the middle if Nank doesn't ruck one out all game.

And in the situation where Nank is in the middle, there is a nothing difference between Soldo and Elton forward.

The only point I can see in playing either Soldo or Elton is to give Nankervis some respite, which makes him more effective. Neither are capable forwards, both can contest in the air. Only one can ruck.

Simple decision.

Why can Ruckmen only rest forwards?

Wing to be an outlet kick?

Defense near the goal line or in the hole in front of the forwards?

If you can't kick a six pointer, save one.

Neither Soldo or Elton are great contested marks either forward , back or wing
As others have said at least Soldo can ruck and give Nank a bit of a break

For a big bloke, in his 4th year of football, and still in the single digits for senior games, he's doing alright.

I think Elton offers more mobility .
Soldo run off way too easy when forward, basically hopeless.
Needs to learn in the 2's
Elton for me until Griffiths
Elton can't ruck. Soldo is there to give Nank a rest and go forward. it's working

Yep gave Nank a good rest tonight and gained some more experience himself.
I like his ruck work but his mobility needs improving.

Using Soldo to take the ruck responsibility over Nanks for a major part of the game and did OK for a guy still learning. His inclusion has done wonders for Toby but not sure if we can continue to play two rucks

IMO really put in tonite followed up on his ruck work provided blocks for our midfielders to run onto the ball also wasn't afraid to get in and lay tackles.
Keep it up big fella

Thought he did ok today against a big boy in Witts.

MCEvoy next week is a totally different kettle of fish though. I'd probably leave him out next week and go Nank / McEvoy head to head.

He is playing right now to let Toby freshen up for the final charge ........... simples.

The club has fingers x that Griffens will be back for the Finals.

yeah agree. just competing allowed Nank to kick 3.

looks more comfortable each week.

Won't ever win a Brownlow, but with a couple of pre-seasons under his belt, he'll be a very serviceable player.
Once he believes in his standing in the game, he'll be fine.
With his size, age and inexperience, they have to persevere with him, given the effort and time put into him already to get him to AFL standard from a zero base.

That was a very important game for Soldo. He met a more highly rated opponent with more experience and I thought had the better of him. In doing so Soldo demonstrated his senior football viability.

His vigour has improved steadily over the past fortnight along with his sprinting. Fitness is still an issue but the bloke is attacking the problem. He started ok in the air but didn't do enough. Didn't get marking position often enough. But could hold it.

That was the breakout game. Will make it IMO.
