Ivan Soldo

I wonder if Soldo might depend a bit on the Duursma / Zerk-Thatcher swap. I reckon that 1 could end up being something like Zerk-Thatcher and 31 for Duursma and 41.

Maybe instead of giving us Freos 2nd and 41 (as I think they've offered their own) they continue to give us their future 2nd but along with 31? I reckon that gets the deal done personally. Maybe we give them one of our 60's back as change so they have at least 1 pick in the draft (maybe even both if we are nice), Naish will be a late or rookie pick anyway you'd think.

They'll eventually get Ratagelea with Pick 25, whether thats in the draft or via trade (geelong would be complete idiots not to trade) and then Sweet gets done for 49.

I've said this before, but a compo pick for Ivan next year will be nothing like what Ben McKay got. We all know that the AFL greased the wheels for North to give them a 1st round pick, when his salary was end of 1st, but even then that was $800k. There is no way anyone pays Soldo $800k. The formula also takes into account age, Soldo will be 28 at the time of next years trade period, almost 29 at the start of the 2025 season which will also work against whatever pick we would get. At best we'd get band 3 (2nd rounder) or more probably band 4 (end of 2nd) so a pick of around 37. We have to get over that North got thrown a bone this year, we won't be thrown anything next year, we already know that, and its likely the old colonel Gill's (now Dill's) recipe will not be kind to us.

This is why I'm an advocate for moving him on now as I don't think having him or not next year will have that much of a bearing on our season as I don't see him as number 1 ruck.

If we can turn the Port offer into Pick 41 and Freos 2nd, even if we give back a 4th (either this year or next) then we would be in a good spot IMO.

Who knows what comp we might get.

My point is that Port should reason that he is worth much more than pick 41 and a future 2nd.
They have a premiership midfield and a very strong forward line. They could win it
with a better ruck.

Pick 25 and Fremantle’s future 2nd or he stays, sees out his contract and our own ruck division remains viable and able to withstand injury to Nank.

Even such an improved offer may not get it done.

Agree we don’t need to trade him and he is way better than a 3rd round pick.

Just signed a 9yr $1.1mill contract to stay at Punt Rd.

Done.
Future 2nd and pick 41.
Korn reckons we have folded and just been pillaged.

so, 2 picks (they are reporting other pick swaps as well) for a 28 year old ruckman?

I'm OK with this. If someone came and said Soldo for pick 25, would you do it? Of course.
We're building our war chest up for next year. Let's not jump at shadows and wait to see what comes of it.

Disappointed as didn’t want to lose him. However he’s a first ruck and club preference is for Nank to then transition to Ryan. I’d have traded Nank & kept Soldo.

In reality, Soldo is probably worth about a pick 20, so underwhelmed by this deal, irrespective of the ‘points’ value.

I'll be sorry to see him go.

The deal is reasonable. Should work out for Port and Ivan. Best of luck to him. *smile* them.

Great deal for us imo. About double what we paid for a younger Nank.
