Ivan Soldo

The deal is fine. If you're okay with losing Soldo.
Not happy with losing him unless the price properly reflected his true value, which it didn’t.

Fine for you, if you are happy with our typical come in and help your self approach.

Check out what Grundy went for. What we paid for Nank.

Hoping that Kennys desperation for a flag next year means that we get Freos future second.

I think it's a poor deal for us given he was contracted. I guess it's that attitude that we do what's best for the player and it builds a happy playing group.

Really surprised that people think it's a poor deal for us. Look at what Grundy cost Melbourne, even granting that they took on his salary, he cost pick 27. Soldo is nowhere near Grundy's level, and looks like we're getting 41 and a pick around 30. Seems like the best we could do to me. If he were to leave as a FA next year, no way we're getting a better result than end of 2nd which would be a pick in the mid 30s, and even then that may be optimistic.

If port win flag or make GF, how will that be pick 30?

Would have liked to keep him, but if he's being guaranteed starting ruck then good luck to him. Deal seems ok when you compare it to the 2 Grundy trades these last two years.

All the best Ivan. Just keep away from those Hawkins shoves when you're up against the Cats

It would be 35 or 36 then if Port made the GF, sure. Obviously depends on Port's finishing position, but it's a pick around 30 plus or minus a few positions. The point is we're getting two picks here, FA would only give us 1.

Thanks. That’s pretty good then

Spooky you are missing the point. Melbourne wanted to get rid of Grundy.
He had become an embarrassment, and he was rowdy in his criticism of other players, and expensive.
Soldo is very popular, very loyal and relatively cheap. He also fills an enormous hole and completes possibly the best midfield seen in the last 20 years.

The thing to me is that personally I believe that Samson Ryan will be a very good ruck, better than Soldo will ever be.

Whilst he develops we need a back up ruck, as someone else said let’s get Lycett for nothing ! If not him we need someone.

I would expect the pick exchange to favour us. After all we supposedly turned down the offer of 41 and a F2 yesterday so you would have expected this to have been improved. Freo's 2nd would be very handy as that is likely to be closer to 20 than 30.

I think it's last year's Grundy trade which was pick 27 plus the salary component obviously. As I said above, we're getting approximately double the FA return for Soldo if he were to leave next year - not a bad result at all. So what if it completes a midfield - that shouldn't have much bearing on the market value of a ruck who hasn't played much at all in the last 3 years. TBH we're pretty lucky to get what we're getting!

Not that loyal - he's been desperate to leave.
