Ivan Soldo

The interesting thing with Port is, I think they need a 1st for next year so they need to trade one in from somewhere. I'd be pretty happy if we helped them out next year by getting Todd Marshall as a FA and they get a Round 1 compo pick.
Very astute.

They've traded that already but I agree the noise is too strong and if Duursma leaves for the Bombers they will have the currency. I think Soldo and Ratagalea are traded for Pick 23 and Freos future 2nd. Not sure which player gets which pick though.
Who did they trade that pick to and what did they get in return?

I cant see Soldo being at RC next year. The noise is too strong.

A future first round pick and Port can have him.

Then start making a serious play for Sean Darcy who is a FA next year.
They traded it away to get 2 2nd rounders.
Where's Kano??

They haven't offered that yet.

Can see why we're not budging on what they've put up so far.

We're not giving him away & not should we.

I reckon we've played this pretty well. When players express an interest to go to a new club we usually get them there, but I reckon this one Ivan expressed an interest and I think we told him quietly we would resolve it for him, but could then play the trump card with Port. If Ivan had come straight out and said he wanted to leave and requested a trade to Port, I reckon we'd be looking at a much worse outcome.

I assume they have offered 41 and Ports 2nd next year. We probably then raised Sinn as an option (remember we did that in 2016 and Caddy slipped out of the Cats to us) so probably thought maybe try it again. I think we might get them to commit to something like Freos 2nd next year + 41 and then they get something back, maybe a future 4th or something.

Even if he goes next year..clubs will come for him, Essendon, Hawthorn Even North all need a ruckman.
The compo could be a early 2nd rounder.
Or pick after our 1st pick

Hawks are stiffing the Tigers cos they want Ginnivan and need a decent pick from the RFC to get him by the looks of it.

Port have too many big ideas and not enough capital.

They are likely gonna have to walk someone through the draft.

It's like Dodoro is consulting to other teams this trade period.

Most likely Craigo.

We may do the same.

Other clubs tend to not pick ‘that player’ who has nominated a club and wishes to go there!

So there might be 3 or so ‘getting walked’ to the PSD.

Hope we hang onto Ivan - thought he showed plenty in the last few games of the season. Nanks body is suspect and Ryan isn’t quite there yet. Would need to be a too good to refuse type deal IMO.

Port needs to work out what is most important. Esava or Ivan Soldo. Pick 25 and Freo’s future 2nd or he stays.
It is not vindictive it isn’t some take off of moneyball. His value next year if he continues with us, is likely to lead to a pick just behind our first, just like North and Ben Curnow. Certainly no more deserving than North for the Curnow travesty.

Look at what we have to lose!

Freo’s future second and pick 25 or Ken can learn to live with it and always remember that with easily.. very easily the best midfield in the competition, how close he came.

I've said this before, but a compo pick for Ivan next year will be nothing like what Ben McKay got. We all know that the AFL greased the wheels for North to give them a 1st round pick, when his salary was end of 1st, but even then that was $800k. There is no way anyone pays Soldo $800k. The formula also takes into account age, Soldo will be 28 at the time of next years trade period, almost 29 at the start of the 2025 season which will also work against whatever pick we would get. At best we'd get band 3 (2nd rounder) or more probably band 4 (end of 2nd) so a pick of around 37. We have to get over that North got thrown a bone this year, we won't be thrown anything next year, we already know that, and its likely the old colonel Gill's (now Dill's) recipe will not be kind to us.

This is why I'm an advocate for moving him on now as I don't think having him or not next year will have that much of a bearing on our season as I don't see him as number 1 ruck.

If we can turn the Port offer into Pick 41 and Freos 2nd, even if we give back a 4th (either this year or next) then we would be in a good spot IMO.
