Ivan Soldo

I'd do that in a heartbeat, grabbing another B grade ruck very doable, every year there's a decent option struggling for gametime. Last year it was Meek, prior to that there's been Darcy Cameron, Toby Nankervis, Stef Martin & Sauce Jacobs, just to name a few. I haven't looked closely at the availability this year but there should be something on offer..

Me too. On the face of it Port will have the most dynamic midfield of all top 4 teams, by the start of 04. Two emerging stars plus Powell-Pepper and Brownlow medalist Wines.
Plus emerging players in defence led by Allier and ditto forward ..O Lord.
Everything except for a decent and tough ruck. Can see why they would have their eye on Soldo. Can see why we would want to keep him.

But Marshall would do it.

Dockers Liam Reidy coming along nicely for Peel Thunder in the WAFL. Of course we coulda grabbed him as a rookie last year or the year before.

Was wrapped for Ivy the way he played when he made it back into the side. I like how he can go forward he kick a goal. Has only played 50 odd games, his best footy is in front of him.
I hope he stays.

Thought he showed plenty in the final few matches. Seemed to be moving well and had a presence in the air. Keep

And there in lies the conundrum we face TT. We would love to trade our way into a better draft position or to get a quality player via a trade but we don’t want to part with anyone who could help us achieve that.

It isn't just that IMO. It is that we need a tough, goal-kicking ruck.

If we lose Ivy, we will be in a much worse position than we are.

Trade what you have excess of, not what you need to keep.

Depends where we see ourselves in the short term. If we’re not going to be vying for a premiership do you take a longer term view and move on players like Soldo whilst they have some currency and focus on the medium to long term.

Go to the draft, keep developing kids like Sampson and take the pain in the short term.

I'd be hanging onto Soldo to be honest, showed some handy form at seasons end and will be more important for the RFC in 24 than he will be for anyone else.

Nank is becoming physically less than the player he was as the years catch up especially with soft tissues and is going to be more prone to them as the years continue to pass.

Ryan aint ready for another season at least and there's no one else.

Id trade a few others before Soldo.

End of season 2024 things might change, but for 2024 the RFC requires Soldo imo.

We are not going to be vying for a premiership in the next 2 years at a minimum. Probably longer.

If we would get a decent pick as a trade I’d say go for it for that reason. But we won’t and I don’t think a pick in the 40’s + would be worth it.

From memory Ivan hadn’t played a game of footy until we listed him. You don’t let him go for a cheap pick.

Soldo was finding some good form in the last few games. Keep unless we get a good offer.

Love the Nankster in full beast mode, he's been an amazing pick up for us over the years. However, I do have one little bugbear at the moment.

Nank turns thirty next year and as an undersized ruck who plays a very physical game, he's somewhat battered and perhaps career longevity shortened.

Soldo's taller, a year n a half younger and played much less footy, less overall physical battering apart from his knee reco incident. Just thinking that he'd fit slightly better and longer term partnering with Samsung's development toward senior ruck.
There's a hint of arse covering in my thoughts in that if Samsung plateaus or falls in a big career hole, I reckon Soldo's still got 3 or 4 years of footy in him rather than Nankster maybe one or two at most.

It all depends really what the trade value was.

If say we are into Marshall and he is on the hook to come as a FA next year, Port may be willing to let him go if they can get a decent trade in. They have Lord and Georgiadis that they could play with Dixon next year. Their issues are in the ruck and defence but a premiership for them is within grasp.

If Soldo and Graham are interested (and Port were interested), what about something like:

Richmond give Soldo, Graham and a F2
Port give Marshall and 43

Port can then trade that F2 for Ratagalea
They can then trade their 37 for Zerk Thatcher.

They add Soldo, Graham, Ratagalea and Zerk Thatcher to their team. Georgiadis will be back to reduce the impact of losing Marshall.

Reckon it could be a big win for all involved.

I think thats pretty fair for clubs and players but don't we have 43? If you mean we give up our 2 players and 43 for Marshall and their future 2 nd, that seems a pretty good result for all concerned.
