Ivan Maric

I don't know my Croats from my Serbs or any other Europeans, so just throwing these up - Johnny Mrakov, Ray Boyanich, Eric Zschech?

Boyanich sounds Serb. And Sam Kekovich is Serb.

If only we drafted Pavlich, arguably the greatest Croat to play footy!

The love is almost Richoesque.

Looks like we are making up for our seemingly botched 2004 draft.

At least Maric and Lids will be able to discuss hairstyles...

;D

If this guy stays healthy and none of the other 3 improve out of sight and get to his level over the Summer then looks like a great trade to me.
I figure we will be on average a 3-4 goal better team immediately because.
- He can consistently compete in the ruck which stops on average about 8 embarrassing breakaways for the opposition per game which usually results in 1-2 goals per game (3 or 4 scoring shots) and the other few times it just puts the ball in the opponents forward half. That was the norm in 2011.
- It allows Vickery to play forward 75% of game time which is great for our forward line and his development. (1 goal extra per game average there) If Griffiths comes along in his 3rd year as I expect then having a 3 prong tall attack (with a healthy Riewoldt) could be massive and prove an even greater advantage.
- It means Cotchin, Martin and friends will get more clearances and again the ball will then spend more time in our forward half. (1 goal extra per game average there) and the midfielders will not have to be on complete "defensive mode" like they were this year.

If we just have a competitive healthy ruckman in 2012 (whether it is Maric, Graham, Derrickx, Browne or whoever) and Vickery gets left to play up forward I think everyone will be shocked at how much more competitive we are as team. Our ruckwork in 2011 was absolutely disgraceful and inadvertently effected so many of the teams performances it was a joke. We just need to be competitive so our young superstars can win one-on-one contests or at least break even. This year there were so many times they were not even getting a chance it was ridiculous.

And best of all. If this guy is a nice neutral ruckman, he is ours for another 4 years because of his age which suits the other 2 younger rucks perfectly.

So please, Ivan, just stay healthy, and don't be a spud.

Wow, crows supporters are very different to us. We are never so positive about one of our own, especially a fringe player.

Maybe they can afford to be gracious because he IS a fringe player - but that's probably a bit mean spirited.

Interesting crows thread tho. Maric certainly sounds like an upgrade, and I like juffarichos thoughts.

What about Bruce Tschirpig? ;D Where was he from?

Seeing those overhead marks and taps to advantage in the highlights package made me a bit giddy. Maybe we won't be able to offload who we'd like, but there's not much you can do about it if no one is buying.

Comparisons with Eeevaan

Pick 15 for Cameron Wood
Pick 4 & 46 for Jolly
Pick 28 for Mumford
33 & 67 for Jacobs
24, 46 & 72 for Warnock and 69

We havent paid overs. As long as he stays healthy we'll be praising our recruiting team at the end of next season, just like we did this year.

Good job Richmond

I think it was 14 & 46 for Jolly

Wow we should have got two of em then. Would make us an 8 goal better side which would have had us win 17 games this year. Let's not get too carried away. Maric will need to show improvement to be confident of touting him as making us a 3-4 goal better team.

How could I forget 'Eureka' Jurica! Another Croat indeed. Any more that I have missed?

Yeah but does not matter they where all duds anyways, why could'nt we have a viduka type in the 22!

I think you're underestimating how bad Graham and Browne were for us this year. Browne should be excused because he should not have even been expected to play. Maybe if I worded it the other way around and said Graham is a 3-4 goal a game worse ruck man than any other solid toiler. Does that make more sense? We may have seen the worst team ruck performance in 20 years over the last 24 rounds. We were atrocious.

Your not wrong there Tommy.

Massive love over at the Crows for big EEvan.

Apart from their obvious football ability, its clear that you must also have good traits as a person if you are to be involved at the RFC.

Don't be ridiculous. We had 4 teams below us on ruck hitout differentials this year. Collingwood were last. Last year we were last. Our ruck performance this year was poor, no doubt about it, and as necessary we are attemptig to do something about it, but worst in 20 years? Since 2007 ie the last 5 years we've been between 13th and 16th in ruck contest differentials. It's been bad for a long time.

By the way, to put your 3-4 goal better team in perspective, this year we would have won 6 more games on that basis and would have placed us in 5th spot on the ladder ahead of Carlton. Surely you are not suggesting Maric would have made that much difference to us this year?

That may be the case but our rucks were crap around the ground too not just in the ruck. The ruck was probably Angus' strength!!! :hihi

Sure he wasn't great but he certainly wasn't as bad as some make out. Of players who had more hitouts than him he had more marks per game than Goldstein, Jamar, Warnock, Jollly. Had more tackles than all 13 above him except Goldstein and Mumford. Even on effective hitouts he was 10th for average per game ahead of ruckmen like Griffen, Wood, Hudson, Lobbe, Hampson, Seaby, McEvoy, Brogan, Z Smith, Natanui.

Not trying to defend Graham, I know we need better, but we tend to over-dramatise sometimes.
