Once this small pool is exhausted, it all becomes speculative. This one can’t kick, that one is too slow, the other one looks fantastic but never gets a kick. Most picks in the 20-70 range are similar. How often do better players end up on the rookie list, or not even drafted until the next year? Nobody wanted Luke Brown last year, any club could have had him with pick 1 zillion in the Rokie Draft, this year everybody wanted him.

We have to improve our list. Maric does that at reasonable cost, addressing an embarrassing weakness. It had nothing to do with looking desperate, every list manager in Australia would have understood exactly what the state or our ruck stocks was.

Use the PSD for someone else now. Picks have no intrinsic value, they are just a mechanism for getting players onto your list. I doubt that Collingwood or Hawthorn are losing sleep over not having a pick in the first round. In Collingwood’s case, that will be 4 out of the last 5 years that they have traded their first round pick to address a need. It has hardly held back their progress.

Drafts are not necessarily weak or strong, they are just an opportunity to get new players onto your list.

Agreed, but if Goofus plays well enough at Coburg or even in the seniors to warrant more games, fair enough, he will deserve it. Just needs to be more aggressive. Is not totally without hope IMO. C'Mon Angus, develop a mean streak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geez Bridge Street embarasses himself with one dimensional stats. Look at the way he runs, marks, kicks and rucks compared to Graham.
 
At least there was no sign of him jumping half an hour before acceptances - the curse of our last few ruckman!

considering what we would get for a 2nd rounder in this years draft i would take it. Although what does this say for graha derickx and browne?

I thought dericks was recruited for this reason til graham and browne developed

Agreed anyone would think we just signed Cox or Mummy or Goldstein.

Now we have ruck depth to make other clubs envious.



We have just added one who hasnt done a real amount so far in his career

We have another who is preferred as a forward

We have one who many not make it and has big big question marks

We have another rookie ruck who spent the year injured

And we have one who already well and truly proven he is and has always been a dud.

Maric is a good footballer. Much better than what've got above 197cm. He's not the best out there, but we'll be competitive in the ruck and around the paddock. something we weren't this year. Anyway, what did we give up, pick 37 in a compromised draft. Let's give the club some credit. i was reading posts last year bagging batchelor, conca and dea.
