Ivan Maric

No surprise he plays his best game of the year after the break.

Pack marks, space guarding, tap work and hard running is Drago at his best.

Still got killed in the hitouts which is unlike Maric 2012 but he did a lot more on the ground.

The new around the ground rule doesn't suit Ivan. His a wrestling ruckman but the new rule certainly doesn't help his cause.

More agile ruckman ala Jacobs are jumping at the ball quicker which is skewing the hit out graph.

His around the ground marking and general work and running was back to last years standard - I much rather have players like Maric and our other leaders like Cotch build form and produce a better second half of the season than the first half, its all about building for Sept, something we haven't had to do for a long while.

Wouldn't say Jacobs is agile. Very much a lumbering ruck similar to Maric. If he can't beat Jacobs in a leaping contest he won't win a hitout battle all year. Our mids are going to have to continue to shark opposition ruckmans taps.

Hitouts are over-rated. We're covering that aspect very well. maric killed Jacobs around the gorund and amassed an amazing 12 contested possessions. He was like an extra midfielder yesterday.

Mullet's best game of the year by far. That was something like his 2012 form yesterday. May it remain for the rest of the year. We are a much better team when he is playing like that.

Hitouts are overrated if your ruck doesn't direct them to your mids. If they do then they definitely aren't overrated. Bulldogs are so clearance dominant for such a poor team because of Minson.

Good game from the big fella, best I've seen him move for a while and looks like he may have lost a kilo or two.

Yes and how are Bulldogs travelling? Point is there are things you can do to nullify a doinant tap ruckman with structures. For me if it was aa choice of being able to tap ruck or win around the ground and amass lots of contested ball and tackles, I'd choose the 2nd every tme.

exactly...its all about the midfield...look at the west coast game...never have I seen a more comprehensive thrashing for us in the hitouts and we smashed them in the clearances and in the game full stop.

The most over rated stat of 2013 is clearances. It doesn't matter if you win then any more, teams roll back into zones and presses and try and take the footy from you with pressure and making you go to areas that you don't like, once you have it's all about ability to hurt on the counter attack via foot.

Hitouts to advantage is the golden stat. A hitout on its own doesn't mean much.

Just on the subject of ruckmen, I heard on the radio the other day that the most marks Nic Natanui has taken in a single match is 6.

6!
