Ivan Maric

Nic Nat will jump over him like Ryder did last night. Trouble you need your rucks up and running against the eagles on the big ground.

Trouble in Big O was smashed in his last game against Melb - he did well against Port but perhaps that's not saying much in hindsight.

Hardwick would be too scared not to play him.
Is Griff back? Throw him into the ruck.

If you do this then Mcguane should also be dropped for structure.

ie TV ruck 60%, Griff 40% rotating forward and back, but we would need another key forward who could maintain the forward structure when TV rucks (ie I would see Griff spending half his time in defence as the third man up with the balance in the forward line) I don't see Mcguane setting up our forward structure for some reason like TV does.

Our rucks were smashed 21 hit outs to their 42, our ruck issues are back to 2009 again.
Big Ivan is down 50% on hitouts this year. Can't be helping.

Okay nobody else is saying it but I will.

One year wonder? Playing more like the Adelaide Maric as opposed to the Richmond 2012 Maric.

Yep you have to wonder

Many good points and good questions - and I'm guessing we're all coming from the same general direction i.e. the bloke was sensational last year for both the quality of his footy and just the story itself and the apparent mutual respect between the player the club and us fans.
But no doubt there's been a decline in the standard of his game this season.
So I'm personally hoping that there's a physical explanation - rather then the one hit wonder scenario.
If that's the case then yeah - for the medium and longer term - let's rest him and allow him to get it right.
At the same time I'd like the Club to announce what the injury problem is.
Meanwhile - if he's not 90% or better now and the rest might help - I'd rather we leave him out for WCE.

Doesn't seem to be much between the big O and Ivan at present in terms of hitouts and clearances from hitouts.

Ivan doesn't even look convincing taking an uncontested mark in space at the moment. Injury or confidence problem or both

His problems do look physical largely but are changes to the ruck rule (separating players) hurting Ivan? This was a concern heading into this year given it benefits players with a high jump.
Ivan is a physical ruckman rather than an athletic one but this has been largely been removed from his arsenal.
Once again I cannot think of one bigger problem on our list right now than how much he has deteriorated in his effectiveness this season.

It's not just his ruckwork, he was a rock solid player around the ground for us last year. This year it's been lack of run, dropped marks n fumbles as well. Might be wise to put him away for the Perth game n the bye n see if we can't refresh things a bit. The big O rifice was handy when he played so wouldn't hurt to run him again.
