Ivan Maric

Been looking like a Leyland P76 all year IMO. Servicable, but not setting the world on fire. Surely something amiss. Were gonna need him at his best in October and a rest would seem logical, given the reports on Big O's form at Coburg. I'd be inclined to give him a fortnight to freshen up and perhaps see a hairdresser.

Oh another thing, commentators mentioned it, what's with the 2 ruckmen up against Maric that Fremantle employed late in the match? I thought there had to be a designated ruckman?

You have to designate two ruckman and they must stand apart until the ball is thrown.

However, you can still have a 3rd man up.

The rule is simply to stop the ruckmen wrestling before the ball is thrown.

Freo weren't doing the traditional 3rd man up though, one ruckman was shepherding Maric from the contest to give the other ruckman a free run at it.

Dimma mentioned this in his dissection of the game, and in the footage an angry Ivan throws his arms out to the umpire when he was shepherded out.

I'm starting to think Vickery is a ruckman and not a forward.

Lets hope McBean/Elton/Astbury/Griffiths can come up as a forward.

Agree. I think the club's plan may be to eventually move Vickery to the number 1 spot and mcbean into the ruck/fwd spot. Would be excellent if Griffiths really came on as a defender, would have a chop out at either end so Vickery could man the corridor as a swing man.

Ivan, the not so great in 2013, is playing with what looks like some sort of physical limitations. Its obvious he struggles to contest in the ruck and doesn't run as freely as he was last year. We saw this with Jack the year before and many were denying he was injured and we saw during that preseason he went in for many operations. Hardwick is fooling himself if he thinks he can go into a game with a ruckman who can't do his job properly and that is ruck.

He's injured Ian. 100%

Have said it all year, but have a big fear we are going to ruin Ivan.

Rest him FFS. No-ones winning by going along as we are. Orren would perform better anyway.

This ankle could be a blessing in disguise, rest him until he's ready to perform at a high level. Big O in form.

He was injured Round 1, if not took the injury into the game and it is degenerating. He had trouble walking off the ground Round 1. I suspect it is his groin. I hope all remedial action was taken on the off season.

It is time to give big O his go. Either Griffiths (god help us) or Derrickx as back up for Vickery (more god help us).

So that is that.

Bit like Wallace running Foley into the ground. ???

It's round 6 Evan looks like he needs four weeks off. Isn't getting around the ground with any zip, has no leap, isn't taking any pack marks.

Last year, I can see some value in him playing through necessity but now with Orren give him some time off. We should be able to cover the next two weeks without him.

Wouldnt play him til after the break Scoop. That gives him 6 weeks (& 4 matches off) to get himself right for the back half of the year.

But if it takes longer so be it, he's too valuable for the next few years to take any risk. Thats why leysy was so pissed off at us playing him at the back end of last year in meaningless games when he clearly wasnt right. It impacted his pre-season & now this year. Should have cotton wooled him.

Exactly right...why he played the last few rounds last season is still a mystery.

But given we recruited Orren as ruck insurance, its time to make a claim and get him in.

That was the worse Ive ever seen. He was running like he had been shot in the foot that night against Adelaide

Clearly injured - stumbling, bumbling and lumbering around like Graham at the minute.

If Hardwick contineus to play Maric it will only further demonstrate he's in survival mode (aka "Wallace Mode") and has no confidence whatsoever in Stephenson to adequately cover for him and do a reasonable job, despite him being a player he and his football department actively went out and recruited to do just that.

As some have already said he is definitely injured, in the last quarter he stayed mainly in the middle of the ground and his running was really restricted (was at the game) didn't help that Vickery was out too
Petterd was moved forward in the last and kept stretching his calf/hamstring (i think it was his left) which could've just been cramp but looked a bit more than that

Hardwick has suggested all three in doubt (along with King) for next week
