Ivan Maric

He's been doing pretty much full training for a couple of weeks now. His interrupted pre-season up to then is a concern though.

Not true hay-Z, went to training twice last week and he trained 100%, even played the scratch match. Looking fit.

Ah cheers lads, good to see him back in recent times. Excellent news. Still a big chunk he has missed, hopefully fully over it.

It's a long season..

His load will hopefully be reduced if Griffiths can take some ruckwork in defence and Vickery up forward. Going to rely a fair bit on those two young players this year.

Spot on by TOT back in the day. We got McBean as a young ruck but I still feel that Grundy would have locked awaythe ruck stocks for another 5-7 years. I would have went for the same mix of players, just take the ruck first then a Nick Graham at the McBean pick.

But really looking forward to year 2 of the Ivan era. For me, he is the benchmark player in the side for effort. Nothing is done gracefully, everything is maxium output. What impressed me most was the tackling, pressure acts and work rate of the big man. Also suprised at his ability to go forward and clunk one. Ivan is a much smarter footballer than I thought.

I actually think that underneath Maric’s hulking 104kg frame and tough man imagine he is a closet co-ord. You can see it in the way he can contort his body do get unexpected taps against high jumpers in the centre ruck contest and he recovers quickly for second efforts on the ground after the initial jump. He’s also well above average for ball use amongst ruckman. It’s no coincidence he rates reasonably highly on score involvements for ruckmen.

He’s a footballer you can like for effort and football skills, he’s like a Bowden crossed with a Kellaway.

I'm still not a fan of the McBean pick and was also keen on Grundy, but I reckon Carltoon drafted Nick Graham at pretty much his highest spot (pick 54). I would hope and expect Vlastuin to have a much better career.

I agree with Leysy. Don't forget how Maric denied/hid that he was playing injured late last season.

Griffo and Tyro aren't exactly 'ruckmen' though. I don't know why we still couldn't trade for an upcoming ruckman who'd be ready to follow Maric this season instead of relying on KPPs to do the part-time work. My only solution is that Orro's going to be the first rookie elevated.

I would be surprised to see Ivan play every game this year.

Orren will get a run at some stage I reckon to ensure Ivan gets through the season unscathed.

Don't know that Maric "denied/hid" his groin injury.
It was publicly reported that he had a groin injury but, after missing the one game loss to GCS, Hardwick said that he would continue to play with the injury but would not do full training during the week.
In the interview with Maric recently he said that his treatment was not surgical but rest and rehabilitation and hopefully that fixes the problem.
After McGuane carried a deteriorating groin injury for three years before surgery late in 2011, I am as worried as Navydays, with the only bright spot being we have new rehab "phys-edders".

That's what I mean. It was publicly reported after Dimma's statement. Same with everybody trying to guess Jack's unknown injury throughout the season.

McGun...deteriorating groin injury.....we missed him a lot... ;D

loving the mullet off he's having with Walker, who's got a fair mullet of his own now. heard the bet was whoever cuts it off first must name their first born after the other. proper bet if true.

:hihi

The People's Mullet. Not like that aristocratic Walker. Pfft!

his ground work tonight was unbelievable!

hoovered up heaps of loose gets like no ruckmen should.

let's not get on him for that dropped mark. actually thought he made a good fist of a high ball in a swirling breeze.

i do believe he karate kicked the ball at one point like his beloved jean-claude.

awesome :'(

Battled hard in the ruck against Kruezer. Dished off a few good handballs to players in the midfield, made some costly errors though. Still don't think Ivan had his normal impact around the ground. Vickery playing well up forward meant he had to do the majority of ruck work. Ivan still managed to create contests down back and in the forward line which is important.
