If he wasn't there today,we lose.

I reckon we could say that about a few games this year.

Hope he enjoys a well earned rest before PRE season. He deserves it.

Great first season with the club. Truly shows what an important role the 1st ruck is and how good it is to finally have a competitive ruckman.

Well done Ivan and we must provide him with better back up in 2013 - Vickery or someone else.

In the latter half of the year, we should have been playing Browne off the bench and spelling Ivan forward.

Yeh - he guts it out today but looked tired for mine. Needs more help in there. Top 5 finish in the B + F would be justice.

Except that Brownes not up to it. But AA for Ivan!

Looks really spent. Barely getting off the ground at all. The end is at the right time for Ivan.

But the best ruck we have had since Mark Lee. The right balance of agro & smarts. I think the ruck spot will change the most with free agency. Most rucks don't look any good until they are eligible for free agency. Rucks will be the spot that most clubs sign via FA. No way now at all I would use a pick inside 30 on a ruck.

A bandaged head with the mullet, Port's ruckman is probably having nightmares about him.

Played well in the ruck once again used his body to his advantage there were several times he got free kicks for being held onto to. I like how he can dish off a quick handball to a running midfielder keeps our running speed going. Ivan is the best ruckman we have had for a long time bring on 2013! :clap :clap :clap

Found this on YouTube, thought it was a appropriate way to reflect on what Ivan has done for us this season. It might have some swearing in it so hopefully you older people can handle it. ;) ;D

Nice one... Loved the pic of him with the big sauce

Nice montage but the the thing that stands out the most is how pathetic that guernsey with the Tiger on it looks i hate that guernsey its absolute rubbish and looks cheap and tacky.

Some good insights on the Griffiths threads on how his ruck training could be designed to cover quick ball ups and throw ins in the back half.

This might allow dimma to throw big Ivan forward as a shock trooper. We know he can take a towering grab and is a pretty neat kick from 30.

A bonus is his tank won't be run down as much from having to follow some giraffe into the back. If rance, chappo, grimes can organise themselves then griff will be free to sit on any marauding opposition rucks.

Some good structure goin' on. Provided injuries don't hit too hard.

This was an absolutely must do trade.

We had the clear worst number 1 ruckman in the AFL last year so there was no option but to bring in a more experienced ruckman over the top. The cost is irrelevant, we either get a ruckman in or continue to get beaten up at the stoppages. ALternatives to Maric were pretty thin on the ground, Seaby, Blake, that was about it. I can't see how Zac Clarke was ever an option, except through some horribly one-sided trade. He is probably a year or two away from holding down the ruck anyway.

Maric works as number 1 ruckman, at least he plays with some intensity and makes second efforts.

Had to be done. If they want to avoid this problem again, then draft another young ruckman, either with the last pick at the ND or as a rookie. We should be looking to draft another ruckman every couple of years.

Spot on by TOT back in the day. We got McBean as a young ruck but I still feel that Grundy would have locked awaythe ruck stocks for another 5-7 years. I would have went for the same mix of players, just take the ruck first then a Nick Graham at the McBean pick.

But really looking forward to year 2 of the Ivan era. For me, he is the benchmark player in the side for effort. Nothing is done gracefully, everything is maxium output. What impressed me most was the tackling, pressure acts and work rate of the big man. Also suprised at his ability to go forward and clunk one. Ivan is a much smarter footballer than I thought.

Anyone have any concerns about his injury issues that has majorly impacted his off-season affected the Mullets performance this year.

Leysy has his fingers crossed but is worried.

We are in Feb & he's still yet to join full training. Groins can be nightmare things to get over, sometimes career killers and the mega hard running physical style of football he needs to play means they have to be in A1 condition.

Thought late last year we should have turned him out instead of continually playing him when he was clearly having big issues with his groins. Really hope that decision doesn't come back to bite us as he's crucial to any improvement we need to make this year.

I can't believe I actually made a half-decent call. Normally, I just make stuff up and hope it gets forgotten straight away.

I must admit I was in two minds over Maric. We definitely needed to replace Graham, his half-hearted jogging around while watching somebody run off with the ball gave me the proverbials all through that 2011 season. I didn't think that Maric would be capable of a year like the one he had in 2012 though, I just expected him to be more competitive, especially at stoppages where I thought he might break even every now and again. His hard-running, willingness to link up with the mids and his reading of the ball in defence were a revelation.

Graham had to go, no doubt, but it is a real feather in the cap of whoever it was who identified Maric as the right option. We probably also need to thank Carlton for having so many rucks that Jacobs decided to go home to Adelaide.

He's been doing pretty much full training for a couple of weeks now. His interrupted pre-season up to then is a concern though.

Not true hay-Z, went to training twice last week and he trained 100%, even played the scratch match. Looking fit.
