Inspiring Ken Hinkley

The player culture at Geelong changed years after Cook got there, the main catalyst seemed to be Harley. As for your reservations about Hinkley, the in depth process is designed to bring out the weaknesses. From what March said no the weekend more emphasis on defence is a priority which those old cats sides didn't have.

You don't change the culture overnight. Cook was instrumental in the turning fortunes of Geelong.

Well maybe what Wright and March have done is similar.

what is with all the articles on Hinkley? which media baron is he shagging?

I wasn't at all impressed with that speech. That kind of stuff went out with John Northey. An AFL club these days needs talk about tasks and strategies, not 'eat 'em alive'.

We need someone with more tactical nouse than that. He is off my list!

I wouldve been happy with any of the final three candidates. I think Hinkley will be a great choice. However, he has a hell of a job on his hands. Its going to take more than pump up talks thats for sure.

Well from the feedback Hinkley is the candidate with the most tactical nous. As for the speech I thought it was pretty good, not the best but very good nonetheless. It was certainly a lot better than most quarter and 3 quarter time addresses at VFL games that I've seen.

Kenny and I have both played for the Mighty Camperdown Magpies. Got to be an omen there. :rofl

Honestly nothing much to that speech, opened it expecting something special and it was bit "meh".

I won't let that colour my view though, which is a restricted one, much like everyone else's. I think, bar Rawlings, we will get a decent coach. The first draft/delist period will tell us if we're heading in the right direction.

I'm calling it now: Hinkley has the job! I'm told from a source that his presentation was far superior to Hardwicks and Rawlings.

Great to see the knives are out for Hinkley already and he hasn't even been appointed yet. Give it a bone you naysayers.

I thought KB just mentioned he was presenting tonight ???

Hinkley has his 2nd round interview tonight. ::)

Yeah I heard Hardwick's trial version of Powerpoint expired in the middle of his presentation.

Maybe they have started the process on the way to recovery. I am sure internally they have measures to deduce progress. Only time will tell whether a culture change was successful or not. Personally I think there has been a shift but far too early to tell, and certainly difficult to do so as an outsider.

I think it was the President of Bell Park footy club where Kenny gave his now famous 3/4 GF speech, well he was just on with KB, and as you'd expect I guess, he raved and raved about Ken. He said all those things that you see Geelong and even StK do on field, playing for each other, defensive focus, blah blah, it's all Ken's philosophy. Plus he'S a superb communicator and players man. He's also working on a cure for cancer and studying brain surgery. FWIW.

Thats disappointing to hear. Thought he would have found the cancer cure by now.

Agree Ghost. I just heard David Burke (former Geelong teammate) on SEN talk him up saying he's a people's person who can get into the mind of players. I'd rather someone who has a clear view on how this modern game should be played with skill, development, tactics etc.... These were my doubts on Hinkley as he just comes across like another Northey. I just hope this 'process' has a proper criteria on what our club needs.

not a bad speech, and it was done without the f and c words and psychopathic yelling that was the norm at my club back in the day, although to put it mildly we were a bit more rough around the edges than bell park. ;D

i`m more worried about who we recruit in the draft to be honest,we`ve been searching for the messiah coach for far too long, but if you haven`t got the players it doesn`t matter if you`ve got allan jeans it isn`t going to matter.

you can`t turn *smile* into strawberry jam.
