Inspiring Ken Hinkley

Hinkley was involved when the Cats mauled us by 150 points. This man knows what he is getting into.

If we end up with Hinkley it could be another 3 long wasted years. For mine the cats success came simply down to the players deciding to pull their fingers out and change their fortunes.

In that case lets bypass a coach and save loads of money and just wait until our players decide to pull their finger out. Solved.

Gee how many games does a side need to win before coaches get any credit. What is discernable however is that Geelong play on more and keep the ball in motion than any other side in history. Geelong also rack up unbelievable possession statistics, eclipsing any historcal precedents.

Its funny isnt it. People think teams become great by just rolling up and deciding to play well. In fact it has been shown that often the club that wins the premiership has brough something new to the table that has given them the edge over the rest of the teams. Hawthorn with the rolling defense, Geelong with the play on at all costs method. Sydney stifled the opposition. Coaches and strategies play a very very important role in the ultimate success. However that success has to be planned. You need the right cattle for the right strategies. Good coaches and strategists will ensure this happens.

I think too many here are making judgment on Hinkley based on some flimsy arguments. Only the club through intense interviews and people who have dealt with Hinkley intimately know how the man ticks, what his strengths are, what his philosophies are, and only they are in a position to have the information to make a judged decision. We have to put trust into that process, not discount someone because of a 1 min speech 6 years ago, or because they think he has been a forwrd coach not a midfield coach etc etc.

Tall forwards are Geelong's weakness, their offensive strategies across the entire team, which is what Hinkley is responsible for, are the best in the league.

Well said.

That mauling was the turnaround game for the Cats. Leading Teams claim a lot of credit for the culture change in the whole club (not just the players) that inspired that turnaround.

Any leakers at Punt Road tonight ?

I'm sure Crutchy's probably set up a tent on the Yarra Park grass or is doing a stakeout in his Kombi van all ready for the Footy Show tonight.
