Injury Report - Season 2023

Samson - Test. Next week - test was completed and out for 1 to 25 weeks

Campbell's abducted adductor may have been located. 4 to 7 weeks on Tuesday, now "short term". Gotta hope 4 to 7 isn't considered "short term" as Lynch's "long term" may see him out for another 2 years.

Richmond midfielder Jacob Hopper is on track to return next Thursday night against Brisbane.
Providing he gets through the Tigers’ main training session on Monday, the 26-year-old, who suffered his soleus injury in Round 9 against Geelong, will be back in the line-up.

Exciting young Tigers Noah Cumberland (soleus) and Samson Ryan (ankle) are also a test to face to the Lions following the bye.
Meanwhile, draftee Seth Campbell has moved from the medium-term injury list to the short-term list as he progresses through his adductor injury.

Richmond Injury List:

Test
Noah Cumberland (soleus)
Jacob Hopper (soleus)
Samson Ryan (ankle)

Unavailable
Seth Campbell, adductor (short-term)
Josh Gibcus, hamstring (medium-term)
Kaleb Smith, ankle (long-term)
Tom Lynch, foot (long-term)
Mate Colina, back (long-term)
Robbie Tarrant, hip (indefinite)

Hard to see Lynch playing again this year.

That said it has been good for Samson and a lesser extent Ben Millers development.

Clearly not ideal. However, it really does fast track the development of Ryan & Miller. Ryan will definitely make it. I think Miller will continue to develop into an important player for us. Coaching confidence into him is the key if he is to become a lock and contested player.

The weekly reports have been quite strange and at times disappointing.

I get that you don't want to give an advantage to your competitors but reckon a greater level of transparency is required for members.

Hun reporting that AFLHQ is gunna mandate clubs give proper weekly timelines for injured players returning. Not just us but Moggies fans sooking and bleating there's no official precise dates from the medicos.
What a bunch of pathetic puerile rubbish, that we need and have to be told exactly what, where, when, why and how an injured player is progressing each week.

FFS player X is out injured, we're pretty sure it's not serious or permanent so he should be back in action one day soon. In the meantime we'll get game time into somebody else at the club. Run what ya brung on the day that ya brung it. Good enough for me.

Are his player wages cheaper than an assistant coach for the backline? Is this why he is indefinite but physically training. By the way Razor Ray says that's a free against Jack for holding the jumper and a free against Tyler for too high to the neck.

Prestia maybe getting his rest to get on top of any niggles he's still got, could be a smokescreen.

Didn't see or hear anything re an injury post-match last week. Unless I missed it as haven't paid much attention to footy the past week.

Straight swap in Grasshopper out Meatball.

I think thats highly possible re Tarrant. It could be a way of having a defensive coach outside of the soft cap. I did muse on that when he came across to us on 2 years compared to Norths 1 year that the 2nd year may have been more about coaching.

You would think so the way it's playing out. He wouldn't be part of the soft cap. Quite a smart move really..

Just watch the AFL put the skids under it & penalise us for it.

Mandating clubs to provide return dates will just mean fans getting even more irate when player x takes a week longer to return from their hammy/calf/prolapsed sinus from too many nose beers than was originally suggested.

Clubs will then just counter with meaningless dates like player x taking 12 weeks to recover from a broken toe nail and we are right back to where we started.

Personally l, I’m okay with how it is. Much bigger issues in footy right now than listed injury times.

What was wrong with what Burge gave us the past few years? Reckon that is all the membership want and we all appreciated the communication and transparency.

It didn't cause any issues.

We regressed markedly in this area under the new Physical Performance regime.

Burge copped a bit on here, but has Hawthorn humming on the injury front this year. FWIW here is his latest report. He also gives far better written timelines to keep the members engaged and up to date. A million miles ahead of what we provide. Dont see it biting him too hard.

Interesting. Only speculation but I reckon we’ve lost out in this type of area based on the current level / lack of communication.

-- FROM JIATH link
"We had a long discussion post-training on Thursday, and there were just a couple of things that he didn't feel 100% confident with."

"He completed every drill, he completed the whole session, but he's an experienced player, he know his body and he told us how he was feeling and the decision in the end was let's wait another week.

"All being well this Thursday, with his confidence levels being higher, he would be available this weekend."
--

My translation - The 23 year old (not that experienced) Jiath wanted to play but after Burgess asked some very pointed questions and Jiath answered honestly then Burgess told him to wait another week to prevent the chance of something else cropping up. Obviously different position for Hawthorn with no finals on the line means no pressure in that regard to get players back early.

You can’t blame them, their injury list is beyond extreme.

West Coast Eagles part ways with their strength and conditioning Manager, Warren Kofoed
