We have no way of being able to gauge what influence Hinkley or Hardwick actually have had in the success of their two clubs. Those on the selection committee are the only people in a position to sort out the merits of both candidates. Let the process find the best man and then we all need to support that decision. The whole club needs to come together behind the new man, take it's medicine over the Summer and start next year with new hope.

Also, the media is driving me nuts. Dippa was on the TV this morning and said that Richmond should hurry up, we are taking too long and are missing out on candidates the longer we take. What rubbish. The media are just happy to stick the boots into Richmond over anything without any understanding of what is happening. We are on the verge of getting the man we want. To any media reading who just don't get it- WE DIDN'T WANT SCOTT!- WE DIDN'T WANT SHEEDY! WE DIDN'T WANT LONGMIRE! BUCKLEY WAS NEVER AVAILABLE TO FIND OUT IF WE WANTED HIM AND NOW WE ARE DOWN TO THE LAST FEW AND WILL CHOOSE WHO WE DOOO WANT! COMPRENDE?

Why wouldn't he be? Maybe he'll eat the cheese sandwich.

Just that he's had a considerable amount of success as player and assis coach and may not push as hard when the clinches come. But Sheeds and Malts had success as players and coaches and they were/have been hungry for a long time.

What station gets dippa to comment on anything? Zero credibility.

i don`t really want hinkley,he was a non-descript soft flanker for geelong when they continually failed in grand finals.
i don`t think he would have the aura and presence that hardwick would have.

yes he`s been at geelong whilst they have been awesome but i think most assistant coaches would look like geniuses with that geelong team of 07/08.

Agree with both points. I think that good coaches like Matthews, Sheeds, Woosha and Malts all have that steely-eyed 'aura' about them. Can see that in Hardwick - nothing like it about Hinkley.

And what real success have Geelong had for all that talent? One Premiership. Perhaps you could say that the current coaching staff have generally failed the talent they've been given to work with.

Lolz - so typical. The footy media is like a spoilt little kid that chucks a tanty every time it doesn't get what it wants. So often you hear stories like this where clubs "have to act now" or whatever - when it's really just their desperation to get something in print driving the emergency.

As a result they get sand in their pants over guys like Clarkson or Worsfold who treat them with contempt and fall over themselves to accommodate guys like Wallace who play ball with them.

I'm pleased for once we seem to be conducting this all in house on our own terms.

What about the aura of Lyon or Roos, IMHO thats more who Hinkley resembles.

Hinkley was also at the Cats when they didn't perform and went through the review process immediately preceding their premiership, so he has some experiencing in turning an underperforming culture around. That's an ideal background for someone about to coach yoghurt that's been left out of the fridge for almost 30 years.
