Goodbye Mabior Chol

Chol's skillset is more suited to AFL than Soldo's, but at this stage, Soldo would have more impact. Soldo could easily play second ruck to Nankervis, and has actually turned into a player who can take marks around the ground.

Both still raw, and I wouldn't mind seeing either. But I'd have Soldo ahead on his big man game and intensity.

I agree with Coburg largely. Goes up with one hand every so often. Doesn't seem committed to tackles; half-hearted chases; doesn't hold contested marks.

He looks silky but the intensity isn't there.

Soldo is the opposite. He may be too lumbering when he gets up to the higher level but for now he's running out the games well despite doing almost all te heavy lifting; can tae a mark; is kicking straight; his ruckwork is getting increasingly advantageous.

If you can rest Soldo in the goalsquare, with him rucking in forward 50 and Nank hangin back... Our mosquitoes could do very well at his feet.

Then we should get him in (I'm assuming we see the same output from Elton on Monday).

I agree with the consensus on both Chol and Soldo. Soldo is tall enough and big enough to play AFL but he lacks game sense to some degree. He doesn't seem to read the play particularly well and looks like he is lumbering around. When he gets it, he is competitive. He can easily get to the standard of say, Witts, Spencer or Preuss, even Zac Smith He can be very effective in that big-bodied ruckman style. He is becoming quite a beast.

Chol is much more athletic and has even less game sense. He is a bit more like Matthew Richardson but with a lot less aggression and very little see-ball-get-ball single-mindedness. From what I saw of him last week, he is just a super athlete who jumps all over everyone and sometimes wins the ball as a result. He is also a bit fumbly. Not quite ready.

Soldo can go now.

Too often Chol seems to be third or fourth in the marking contest. He doesn't hold them often if he does get his hand son it, and tends to spectate when the ball hits the ground.

Soldo on the other hand is clunking them and has more value as a ruck.

But it's a tough month of games coming up for whoever gets a run, including Elton.

It's early days but my concern with chol is similar to that of griffiths. His ability to read the flight of the ball and have the spacial awareness to position himself to attack the mark. Similar to griff seems his reaction time is lacking when the ball is in the air and is usually out of position when the ball reaches the marking zone. This is a key skillset for a tall and hopefully he can improve.

I'd play him hhf or wing. He wont be a marking machine or a great KPP. Let him run up down the wings/flanks and deliver into the forward line.

You'll be a man down for ground ball gets and pressure around the ground.

Move him back.

I never have an issue with this. Forwards should always spend a season in defence, especially those special cases who have athleticism but lack game savvy. Chol would make an awesome centre half back in the VFL. His opponent would lead him to the ball, he would then jump all over him and beat him with athleticism. The only thing would be that he would give away a lot for frees. He'd get caught, he'd infringe in marking contests, etc etc. That's why he needs to do it in the VFL.

Long term, he is most likely to be a very mobile smaller, athletic ruckman- more Natanui or Stef Martin than Mumford. I wouldn't discount him as an athletic defender by any means though.

What's his disposal by foot like? Obviously if there was an eye for him to become a defender, a lot of your attacking plays are set up in the defensive half, so requires players with elite disposal by foot coming out of defense (one area we seem to be improving in).

But yeah, perhaps an athletic defender whom also takes on rucking duties in the back half.....which would work in perfectly if you want Nankervis playing a mix of ruck and as a tall forward marking option. Certainly adds some flexibility to a side.

Can see why he hasn't got a game after today.

Refuses to make contests. Lost count of how many times he let his opponent go up uncontested for a mark.

Poor. Very poor. That is not something that can be taught either. Self desire thing.

Lazy pea heart and half arsed contests.

Won't make it without any intensity.

Was a disgrace today.

Ordinary today, probally needed to have a little more footy nous in the marking contest rather then just fly high for everything, still has come along way in 18 months considering his a rd 2 rookie draft long term prospect.

Those calling for Chol's elevation to the seniors will be disappointed with his efforts today in the VFL.
I can see now why Elton (up until today at least) has been selected in the senior 22.

Today's VFL game highlighted how important Griffiths is to the team. We have a serious lack of depth in the tall man department up forward and Chol is a long way off deserving a game based on today's lack of intensity and commitment to the contest.

I watched C Moore closely too and he's also a long way off AFL standard. Eltons a spud, but he's sadly the best spud we have right now to play that role.

There is NO DEPTH in Key Popsitions.

Chol is miles off it, so is Soldo.

Moore is athletically gifted but is lacking in skill and footy IQ.

The KPP cupboard is bare.

Must be addressed properly and with quality no more near do wells.
