Goodbye Mabior Chol

Two seasons in a row Mabs has been dropped for inconsistency on the verge of playing in finals.
If that doesn't send him the clearest of messages it never will.
If he gets an opportunity, he'd better grab it with both hands.

Intensity. Intensity. Intensity.

Just bring it consistently Marbs and a spot is there for the taking for you.

5 goals in two ten minute halves, he's going at a goal every four minutes!

Its more likely he kicked 5 in 5 minutes, then didnt touch the ball for 15

note: this is not a criticism

Injury to Soldo & suspension of Coleman-Jones leaves our ruck stocks pretty thin going into 2021. Suspect we need to recruit a mature age ruck as back up or even alternate option when we come up against teams with bigger rucks. Soldo was especially useful against Natanui for example. Not sure who we could target but Preuss comes to mind as one possibility. Or do we offer Goldstein a one year deal?

He is a bit like the bloke from The Club.
He stares at the seagulls during the game. :clap2

you cant really plan for, or insure against, one ruckman to get 10 weeks for grabbing a kebab and another's knee to disintegrate

in a week.

No - it’s an exceptional situation but with this group still in the premiership window for at least 2021 & probably 2022, we’ll have to address the ruck situation now in my view. Unrealistic to expect Nank to carry it.

yes but with lists of 35, you couldn't carry 5 ruck men.

Nank and CCJ in 2021 with Mabs as backup? 2022 CCJ with Ivan and Mabs as back up (Nank will wear out prematurely - look at Grundy, he's plumb tuckered out)

It will take us 3 years to teach 7 foot Mate how to catch a funny shaped ball?

Yes - list sizes will make it interesting. I’m hoping the AFL give in to player pressure and don’t change it or if they do, there’s greater capacity for rookie list type players that can be elevated if serious injuries take place. Reckon we’ll be a chance to develop Mate - at least he’s played footy before as a junior. Time will tell.

He has played previously with Noah @ Doutta Stars IIRC

I coached a fair few Children of Frankenstein in juniors Taz

and I never taught any of them how to catch or kick.

the instruction was generally to jump, and land on one of them

I tend to think of chol more as a forward than a ruck ,

Definitely changes the dynamic of the side , we lose authority in the tap outs but potentially become more unpredictable in general play if he plays to his strengths

The whisper has changed to a smaller list size of 40 rather than the drastic 35.

Cholly is young, he's finding his place in the team and just needs to find that feeling of "yep, I belong here"

He's gonna be fine.

I hope Emma Murray is Chollys best friend in the hub from now on. Cos it's all concentration and mindset with him.

He can do the spectacular, just needs to stay in the game and do the small stuff.

Tigers showing highlights of the scratch match. Looked to be slow motion, very little pressure. Chol took some strong marks getting in the right possies. Query is can he do that on the stronger bodies at AFL level instead of waiting for it to clear the pack? Adelaide will be a good game for him to focus on the basics and get some confidence.

I love Soldo, but let's not pretend that he is an elite ruck. He ranks 15th for hit outs, 26th for marks and 28th for disposals amongst AFL ruckman. As I said I don't understand the 'I don't trust Chol' narrative. He has shown plenty this year and provides a completely different skillset to Soldo and I reckon the combo of Nank and Chol will be very, very good and far better around the ground than Soldo...others clearly do not - we will see.
I agree Soldo is not an elite ruck; but he doesn’t have to be. He just needs to be combative and he is that in spades. We saw how effective he was against NicNat. I shudder at the thought of Chol trying to compete with him at a centre square bounce.

If Chol had so much to offer he’d be in the side ahead of Soldo but that has never been the case. He’s only got a run when Nank has been injured. Chol has talent but it’s his ability to play at the intensity required over the course of a game and a run of games that is in question. That’s why he’s not in the side now.

You know Soldo will always bring his best effort; Chol has not shown that reliability. He will get his big chance now; hopefully he steps up and takes it.

Spot on & well put.

You did say Chol would disappear, claiming we cannot afford an invisible man in the Grand Final. Where is the actual evidence that he always fades? Apart from your anecdotal stuff.

Chol's numbers were not excellent, but they were not terrible either. This season, I would put Nank and Chol on par.

Not really anecdotal. If you have Kayo go back and watch some of the games. He has bouts of high intensity and then goes missi g for long periods. At times he seems not to try. If he was doing the right things he wouldn't have been dropped. Big few weeks ahead for him. This is his chance.
