The Age must have read this post, they published almost two paragraphs on Day.

FFS, this guy is our best golfer by miles!
He's talented, competitive, good looking, well spoken, humble. What more do they want?
Silly me, if he shags schoolgirls, mainlines coke or shoots cats, then the Age may write something

I was amazed how well spoken he was when interviewed at The Masters. And humble as you say. My fav aussie golfer by a mile already.

So, its that time again......

Im sure Jason Day is most peoples Aussie hopeful and rightfully so, been tearing it up for awhile now and playing very consistent golf to boot.

Weather gonna be a major influence in this one by the sound of it, culd be some "footy scores" by the time this one is all said and done.

Would love to see an Aussie just contend late into the last rd of a British again, been to long.

He seems to be forgotten about by the Australian media and public at the moment.

Probably because they hardly know the kid Phil, I mean he came over here pretty well unheralded as a 20 year old and in just 3 and half years has amassed almost 8 Mill in prize money, very impressive to be honest.

As far as I know, he has NEVER returned back home (certainly not to play anyway, maybe snuck in to see friends and family maybe), got married to an American girl fairly quickly upon arriving and at a young age also and keeps a pretty low profile it must be said, but he is well known amongst the "who's who" over here these days, thats for sure.

I remember a few years back now I was told by quite a few people who know the game that Andrew Buckle would be the next great Aussie Golfer, but this kid has flown past him at a rate of knots (Buckle is back on the Nationwide these days and struggling big time)

Some breaking news I just heard over here also ....

Word is, Stevie Williams is DONE caddying for Tiger, she's all over Red Rover !!!!.....probably end up as Adam Scotts fulltime by the sound of things.

Interesting Open so far ..........

Alot will depend on what the weather does over the weekend, sounds like it could get real nasty after 2 relatively calm days.

7 strokes covers 70 players, so its still anyone's thats for sure.

Disappointed to see Allenby drop 3 in the last 4 last night, was 2 off the lead at that stage and right in with a chance, not sure he can make up 5 on this course now.

That was nothing compared to poor ol' Kurt Barnes, the leading Aussie after the 1st Rd..........

10 over after 8 holes isn't really the start you'd be looking for to get the head on straight , kid fought back well though to keep it reasonable at an 81, so that shows some resolve at least.

Should be a good weekend ahead.

Golfers are AWOL this week aren't we !!!

Would love to see Darren Clarke win an Open, lovely bloke and has hung in through some tough personal years, would be a very popular win in the Isles also.

I'm here Jack, although haven't taken as much notice of the Open as I usually would.

Let's hope the conditions tonight allow for some good scoring.... Still a number of players in it. Agree on Clarke

I figured someone had to be watching it Phil......

Well, was an interesting first 9 with Mick making his usual run out of the blue only to succumb again, can't say the bloke isn't at least worth the price of admission, 6 under after 9 in any major is some great golf.

Johnson again was right there but as has been his MO of late, just when he looked ready to pounce, plays a total headscratcher and DB's a Par 5 to end his hopes.

Clarke was steady as she goes in some windy conditions, played it beautifully and showed great composure, great win and couldn't happen to a nicer normal bloke.

Damn, how must it feel to be a Northern Ireland golf fan ?

3 Champions in 13 months is unthinkable and here we think as a tiny nation we do alright for ourselves, sh!t, that Country is half the size of Victoria in pop. and has that honour, gotta be something to brag about I'd think.

Great stuff by Darren Clarke. Given an Aussie was never likely to win after the third day, I am happy he got the chocolates.

Has had some big wins in his career....has knocked off Tiger in a couple of pretty high standard tourneys over the years from memory, but this takes the cake.

And jack, you are richt about Northern Ireland, a great achievement.

Yeah, he has had some memorable wins, the one's over Tiger in his prime no doubt take the cake, or did until this past week ofcourse.

Funny how the Tiger/Stevie williams story has just be broken worldwide today seeing as Mark Allan broke that exact news a full week ago on SEN radio, I just happened to be listening in that day when he made the call.

Well done to him, can't believe it took that long to break over here, the Yanks would be spewing being beaten to that news, especially those spankers at the Golf Channel.

I'm getting on a bit, so I'm dumping some long irons and swapping to some rescues:hybrids. Had a look at what's on the market and golly I could get a job designing club graphics. They're all woeful. Mizuno has what appears to be flowers on their shafts...wtf.

Steve Williams is getting some greif for his comments after Adam Scott's win at the WGC event. Sounds like a bad marriage break up! Scott's press conf was very good, seems choc full of confidenece. Day, Badds also did well.

Looking forward to PGA champ this week!

Was quite funny listening to the interview, he did souns like he had won the tournament. I used to dislike him but liked the confidence he showed. The guy is a winner and isn't embarrassed to talk himself up. He is the worlds best caddie. Was interesting listening to Mike Clayton on SEN tell a couple of stories of Williams time with Norman, made it sound like Greg could have won a few more majors if he had Williams on his bag and listened to him.

It could be the making of Scott as a major winner.

Hopefully Scott and Day can carry their good for from last week into the PGA....they seem like the most likely Australian contenders.

The great thing about major championships though is their tendancy to throw up some rank outsiders as contenders...so I expect someone that noone is even ranking as a chance will be in contention come Sunday.

I think you may have done your dough AZZA....+15 after round 1.

I couldnt have been much further off Phil. I scrolled through the leaderboard this morning, looking, looking until all the way down..... what a reversal of form from last week, unfortunately the wrong way.

Still have Scott for the win though.

Well Scott is certainly well in it, so fingers crossed he has a good weekend.

The last 4 holes on the course can see players fall back to the pack very quickly, so promises to be an interesting weekend
