Golf

Only one poster picked Rory and one with Aberg. No one picked Cantlay.

We ain't gunna see 20 under rounds on this one.

Round 1 2024 PRE US Open Championship

We're off and running at Pinehurst !

Reckon the USGA might have the course exactly where it wants it. 33 players even or better on day 1. They'll tune that up a bit over the next 3 days and only have a handful of players under par by the end I reckon. Good. The PGA at Valhalla was farcical. Time to test these blokes out.

As Miles says, only 1 person picked Rory and The Iceberg. Tenacious and BT respectively. Will it be enough to compete with ? We'll see.

Lot of players for PRE punters let their rounds go. Koepka and Henley to name a couple. That's US Open golf. Theegala no good. Hovland can not chip. Thomas no good from the start.

Beets leads a tight field at +2 followed by Miles at +3. 2 shots further back in equal 3rd are Danners, myself and Toigs. Others lurking. Tigerforce's 1990's throwback side lets him down. Oh well. Can still use the non-cut card to improve.

Field swaps around tonight. Can't wait. Few beers and 2nd round of the US Open at Pinehurst. It doesn't get any better baby !

Check your scores and let me know if there's any ammendments I have to make. C'moooon !

How good! Get to watch Shuffles/McIllroy/Souffle from about 9.30pm, followed by Bryson at 9.40pm don't have to endure the entire bore fest that will be bland v saints

And the WUG at 9.29pm! First time I dropped him from my squad and he plays well! Think he has to have a meltdown at some stage, although perhaps it is the perfect course for him as he is used to feeling aggrieved.

Hopefully Min Woo and other Aussies can produce something better

Totally agree on all points !

disappointing from Theegala and Davis
Davis hasn’t been paying well for quite some time furball. I wish he would get rid of his current coach. Have you seen his old and original swing? Oh my goodness it is every bit as good as Adam Scott. However, his putting has never really been any good..

For me it's last chance saloon for Mickelson and Woods. Rose is getting old too.
It is and has been for quite a while. But could someone let the US golf networks know, about Woods especially. He's done; and has been for quite awhile, since his terrible car accident; although it's plausible to trace his decline since he decided to cheat on his lovely (1st) wife to the max. Plenty of evidence IMHO that he's not that great a guy - no surprise given the influential role model of his father (read the book about his upbringing).

It's fairly obvious that while Tiger's mind and will to win is still unabated, the body is no longer capable with one good leg and whatever. It's hard enough to beat all these modern day pros if you're in your prime and fighting fit. But as my old man would have said, "self-inflicted wounds!". Woods has made and keeps making a mint from golf while not being competitive since wrecking his career and himself. Off to the Champions Tour Tiger, maybe they'll let you use a cart.

The obsessive network coverage of virtually everything Woods does, to the detriment of showing how the real contenders are playing, drives me spare!

[And the same with coverage on 'Rory-TV' on the DP Euro tour; where the camera spends more time watching R arrive at the course, walk to driving range, practise his shots, then putts, then walk to 1st tee, scratch his bum, use the portaloo etc. etc., all the while other genuine contenders are actually scoring. It's pathetic.]

bloody sheffles couldnt hit a fairway last round @ muirfield & i still cough up first time.
mcginley at length convinces me my perennial pick deshambles cant produce here.
im giving this far too much thought...ever since i saw tenacious level.

luvit tho.

How many times do golfers - including pros - use a putter to get back on the green up a steep bank and leave it short and it rolls back ? You see it time and time again: never hit it hard enough. Underestimate the effect of the gradient. Too scared to hit it.

nothing like a coach to screw you up.. it's partly why i like the unorthodox / whatever works ..

Jack talked about this at the Memorial last week. Reckons he understands it, but all theses guys being surround by a “team” and coaches for this and that doesn’t help you on the 3rd hole when you’re just not feeling it. You need to know your own swing, and what to do with it when it’s not working, and how to still score when it’s not working.

Reckons he won a bunch when not swinging it very well because he knew how to work around it and still score. He doubted whether too many of them could work it out themselves nowadays without a practice session with a teacher.

I find its the grain that causes this problem more than anything. If you're putting against it you'd better hit it harder than you think!

they're interesting words that say a lot .. and not just about golf ..

These greens are close to unplayable.

Shuffles putting is back to almost *smile*. Doubt he can trouble the leaders. Missed 2 great chances for birdie. And not even scaring the hole.

Doubt we see a 65 today. Probably not dven 67.

Scrivener doing a great job through 9 even par.

Round 2 2024 PRE US Open Championship

A tight leaderboard at the US Open after round 2 - both on the course and in the 2024 PRE US Open.

Matsuyama would have been in a few punters minds I bet. But only furball selected him. Shoots 4 under. Ditto Detry who continues his solid form with a 3 under. Horschel goes 3 under as well for a few punters. But number 1 pick Snuffler struggles with a 4 over. However, he sneaks into the cut and will no doubt perform for PRE competitors regardless.

That US Open leaderboard is stacked. There's 25 players within 6 shots of the lead. The way the course is playing any of them could win.

Equally, the PRE leaderboard is a tight contest. Danners moves from 3rd and into 1st place at 4 over. First time winner ? Myself and Beets equal 2nd 3 shots back. Toigs in 4th spot another shot back. Miles, one more shot back in 5th. Cougar still a chance. Nobets moves from 12th to 7th. Angle ankle plummets from 6th to 12th thanks to big guns Snuff and Morikawa and then Noren all underperforming. PGA winner spoof looks like he might have blown his load. Old mate Moopsgomerie is pfaffing around. Lift Moops !

Lot of water to go under the bridge in this one.

Check your scores. Any changes, I'll make 'em tomorrow. Big day at the footy and afterwards. Cmooon Richmond !
