I wonder if all the Liv guys will still get their dough. Reckon the success of the Adelaide event help Liv's cause.

You would imagine their would have been conditions associated with some of the $$ paid to the LIV guys.

Some of them might end up making less money now and might be pissed off!

I'd be surprised if they weren't. It was them signing up that really made this possible. Did the WSC players still get their contracts when Cricket merged in Aus?

Amazing this could have been kept a secret. So few people must have been aware.

For how long on this thread MD have I been saying that Jay Monaghan is an absolute, 100%, bona fide dud ?
Yeh, you haven't been a fan!

Can understand players beeing upset with him. The CEO of the new tour?!

What sort of personal benefits would he have received?

Ultimately there has to be some sort of way forward but on the surface Monaghan appears to have let down the players he represents.

Thinking about it I reckon Monaghan as CEO of the new tour is untenable

You’d think so. Check out Collin Morikawa’s comments. Mackenzie Hughes. Not happy.

Suggestion is, possibly, that not even Greg Norman knew about this. He was called 30 minutes before the announcement and told by the PIF of the merger.

The WWT ? Top 50 join the new Woods World Tour. Hah hah hah hah…

And they are talking some sort of team aspect to the tour?

Is that popular with the LIV players? Is anyone interested in how the teams are going with LIV?

The suggestion is that LIV was struggling to get any sponsors for the team aspect of their program and that the PGA Tour was able to fill the void there and also saw the teams style events as a good thing. Not sure about that "void" part though. Reckon the PGA Tour might have a few sponsors walk actually. As for teams events themselves, personally, apart from the Ryder and President Cups, I couldn't give a *smile* about them.

Wow, completely blindsided by this. Must admit I genuinely checked it wasn't April 1 when it came up this morning.

Monaghan seems to have done everyone over royally on the PGA Tour. Tells them not to take the money then does the same thing and makes himself the boss of world golf in the process. Seems like a total rollover from the PGA, I reckon there were several big names going to head to LIV in response to the new schedule stuff and they had no choice but to fold.

Really hope it doesn't mean the elevated event stuff follows the LIV pathway with the best 48 players playing, big pots and no cuts, and we go back to an American centric golf tour.

With Sharkie cut out I reckon Australia will be forgotten unfortunately, hopefully Smithy has some pull.

Would give anything to be in the PGA players meeting today. Guys like McIlroy would be entitled to be filthy with this.

Lot of the PGA players are calling for Monaghan's resignation. Can't say I blame them. And all the 9/11 stuff he went with too. Can't see him lasting. The revelation of all this merger without proper, considered process and consulting key players, looking like a PR disaster.

Tongue in cheek or another cheap shot of one of our greatest sportsmen? How many golfers win 90 tournaments and 2 majors?
I have been one go Greg's biggest fans, up until he got into bed with the Saudi's.
I walked 18 holes watching him play in the late 70's.
I was shattered when he blew a 6 shot lead to lose the Masters, which I watched live on TV.
He was the best driver of the ball that I have seen.

I don't have a problem with Greg setting up LIV golf, but I do have a problem with who he used to finance it. Aside from their alleged involvement in the murder of Khashoggi, it's their oppression of women that I despise.

Geez I hope we now get the best players playing against each other most weeks now.

Find it funny that everything Reed told me last year has panned out to be true , it’s if it was always planned to end this way

Seems to be a win for LIV golfers now that more details have emerged. PGA could have held their nerve for longer I would have thought.

Not sure about that. Besides the fact nobody knows what the terms of the LIV sign on bonuses were (ie were they staggered over the course of 3-5 year contracts or all up front ?) plus they were also tied to the participation in all LIV events over that period - which will now not occur - some people are saying it may null the bonuses. Doubt it personally but you never know.

Further, one or two key reporters are suggesting that the PGA Tour players are going to be paid their own sign on bonuses with the new LLC, to be politely termed “guaranteed salaries.”
