Mick it was a *smile* poor performance from Marcus, kept missin everthing right down the stretch an left 2 8 footers short  in the last 4 holes, though Kingswood did have the man on the bag of the winner plus Poms cadddy as well. How long since Metro have had a decent player ;D

Kingswood is full of celebrities, names, faces and B grade personalities

I hear the members of Eastern out at Doncaster voted to stay on their suffocated goat track. Amazing. Even Metro is better than that dump.

Southern Golf Club. Now there's a crap course as well. Peter Thomson did his usual trick of trying to build a links course on completely flat inland terrain and made a balls up of it on those 9 holes that he "shoved" in there. Worst greens I've ever played on. Small, cricket pitch hard, upturned saucers of greens with diseases in them everywhere.

Southern try to disguise their very ordinary layout by having a massive modern clubhouse. Fooling no-one.

I was a member of Southern for 9 years throughout the '90's into 2001 (won "A" grade one Saturday, which is the highlight of my career as a hack) and can vouch that the greens were small, hard and "upturned" as described, but in 9 years I never saw any hint of disease in them and they were always in good nick, especially after the outlawing of spikes. However, the condition of the rest of the course was amazing, as good as anything anywhere. It's a pity the layout was terrible - very straight and flat, but long and not a lot of fun to play.

I played at Moonah Links Legends course on Sunday, now there's a nice layout!

Agree Flounders. Southern's fairways were always in very good condition. Bunkers...not too bad either but those ones around what used to be the old 15th (par 3) and 17th (par 4) were sometimes 2 feet full of sand.

The greens on the outer side of the course are the ones susceptible to disease - especially the old 5th and 6th greens. Rabbits digging, p*ssing and sh*tting everywhere and fungals occurring all the time.

The outer holes designed by Thomson are a disgrace. The old original 9 holes they have are much better.

Actually Red, the "real" old holes, that are now a 9 hole public golf course across the road, were the best of the course, with plenty of dog legs and such. When I was young I used to work there full time as a (bar) steward and played the course regularly before the new holes were built.

I haven't played there since the new club house was built but from the sound of it finances may have been diverted to paying for the club house at the expense of course maintenence (I could well be wrong). Before it was ever built the projected cost of the club house already rose a $million or two from the original quote and I wouldn't be surprised if it had risen significantly again before completion.

As for the bunkers, when the ground staff did them they were fantastic to play from and very different to the sandy bunkers on non-sand belt courses. Most of the bunkers of the 15th and 17th holes were only new in 2001 and different to most of the others on the course.

PS. Is it too late to get the 1000/1 on O'Hern???

Yeah. The 9 holes on the public course plus the 9 nearest the road are the old 18. The new 9 that Peter Thomson put in (world’s worst golf course designer by a mile) to replace the 9 that are now the public course, are terrible. Just terrible. Already they’ve lifted up and re-designed what was the old par 5 7th (before they built the new clubhouse).

Speaking of the new clubhouse, its pretty good. However, the idiots in their planning put the clubhouse in such a position that it has made the practice fairway a joke i.e. this short iron thing (no woods allowed) that resides right next to the car park. Pathetic.

(Who was that guy that said O’Hern wouldn’t win ?)

O'Hern :duh Just lucky ;D,I thought hes tee to green play was excellent on the back 9 an he actually showed a bit of heart for once, instead of playing safe. But for christ sake those two putts he missed were as weak as *smile* ,dont get me wrong very happy to see him actually win a 4 rounder, but lets face it he got lucky ,Lonard is not in great form an played the play off on pure heart,O'hern did not get one single putt to the hole an consistantly kept coming up short cause he did not have the nuts to get the ball back to the hole.

Worst call of all time from Newton"Nick can win a major" :hihiCant even hole a 2 footer on resort greens how would he go on anice little left to righter on a U S open typpe green under the pump

Anyway well done Nick :clapgood to see a bloke without a lot of natural talent do well on hard work ;D
