Dud everything.

How they finished 2nd or 3rd or whatever it was to us in that World's Best Sports City poll is beyond me. In fact, that result of theirs served to undermine the credibility of that whole survey and Melbourne's rightful spot as no. 1.

I'd vote it as world's WORST sports city.

YAWN.
Common Reds. We have heard it all before... Just between you and me (and i am an MCC member) the SCG is HEAPS better, for both footy and cricket, than the MCG, which for mine is now a bit sterile and generic. Plus we get to enjoy it in vaguely tolerable weather. Sure, the swans are boring and league is a joke, oh and the golf courses are, by and large, rubbish, but it does have its up sides- swimming and surfing being two obvious sports where i think Sydney wins. And sailing.

That said- yep RSGC is pretty average. They have spent a fortune on improvements though, so take a look on the weekend and let us know what you think.
New South Wales is simply awesome, but the parking out there is rubbish.
I am ironically going to be in Melbourne this weekend and miss the golf, which is nothing short of tragic.

Haaaargh haaaargh haaargh !!! C'mon Pizzahut...you're not seriously trying to compare the MCG - almost unanimously regarded as the greatest sporting arena in Australia (and one of the best in the world) - with the mediocre SCG ? ! Haaargh haaargh !

Sailing and surfing ? Are they sports ? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaargh haaaaaaaargh haaaaargh !

Aaaah. You almost had me there Pizzahut you devil, you. :hihi

Great finish by Senden on 17 and 18. All 'round the tournament went pretty well, it appeared. Except for one thing: channel 7's crap coverage.

Honestly, how many times do Brett Ogle and that *smile* Wayne Riley have to supply us with fake and silly enthusiasm and hype ? And how many times do they have to get stuff wrong as well e.g. Scott hitting a "lay up" with his 3rd shot into a par 5 with a "5 iron" that lands on the green ? Fair dinkum. A player misses the green and Ogle invariably starts ranting "Oh, that's dead down there...completely dead" only for the player to almost hole out and make an easy recovery.

How many times does that tired old fart Jack Newton have to trot out the same old one liners ? "Mayor's office"....etc. etc.

IBF was the only half sensible one working on that commentary team yesterday. He must have felt embarrassed to work with those duds. The whole channel 7 golf commentary team needs replacing.

Channel 7 is a joke when it comes to sport. They are amateurs in the vein of some sort of public tv outfit. On the 16th they had Richard Green at 3 under - which was correct. He parred the 16th, then, when he went to tee off on the 17th channel 7 had him at 6 under. Somewhere between walking from the 16th green to the 17th tee he'd had 3 birdies. Not bad going.

How many times did the camera men miss the flight of the ball, or worse, miss a shot entirely ? Good grief.

This is what worries me about channel 7 getting the footy back. They are amateurs who make too many mistakes compared with the slick presentation of a channel 9.

I say bring back Sandra McKenzie Wood

Agree about 7s coverage yesterday Redford. I was surprised how bad it was, as 7 normally do a pretty good job.

Can't stand Radar, and Brett Ogle is mega-annoying now. It's become a big boys club in the commentary box, too blokey and self-indulgent. And can't they think of something other than "Got it!" as another "crucial" putt drops? What happened to just letting the effects-mike and the pictures tell the story?

Couldn't believe Ogle's political editorial about Jeff Kennett as Appleby was about to play a bunker shot to stay in the hunt. WTF? ???

Yep. And he also went on a rant about how the Australian press were to blame for the diminishing status of golf over the last few years. Er…Brett…its hard for the press not to have a few swipes when you’ve got idiots like Colin Phillips running things and making the enormous blunders that he made over the last few years.

Hopefulluy those days are behind us now with McNamee at the helm, and golf will yet again flourish.

Agree with all comments. IBF is fantastic but was brought down a little by the garbage around him.

Those that were listening to SEN as Ogilvy won the US Open would appreciate how good IBF is as he called Ogilvy winning two holes out while giving descriptions to the SEN boys over the phone. Brilliant.

Dean is right too, Australia once had an enviable position as a, if not the pre-immenent broadcaster of golf. Remember sniggering at the British Open coverage as we got endless shots of cloudy skies as the camermen searched for the ball in flight. Embarassingly we've taken over.

Just on a slightly different tack Betfair have signed an MOU with the PGA of Australasia. Good news for us punters.

Ogle is a big disappointment as a commentator.IBF clearly the best, still like Jack Newton also.
