General Trade Discussion 2022

Plenty of better ways to meet those objectives, Tom Mitchell would be fine & he won't cost the earth, that still enables one last tilt with the current personnel. Having pick 7, 12, 30 & next year's first a much better scenario from where I'm standing. Pick 7 & 12 could be bundled to get Cadman, if not ride with Jefferson & Keeler, then there's next year which could be best available. Selling the farm for injury prone inside mids not a percentage play, particularly in light of the GWS track record for selling mutton.
Sorry BH but you constantly bring up Mitchell. He is by far the least suitable player to play in our system. Side ways ball movement is very anti-Richmond.

As for getting pick 7, in theory it sounds great, but at $800k per year, its just not for us. Its too much cap space for a bloke who will be playing against the Northern Bullants.

I think our salary cap would of been the reason we couldn't even consider it. I am amazed we can bring in Hopper and Taranto's salary let alone another $800k. This is a rare opportunity for the club to bring in two talented midfielders that we needed. Most other club supporters are very envious. Is there a big cost ?, is there a big risk ? of course there is but we just have to back the club that they are doing the right thing.

I think our finals exit was enough proof that we don’t have the midfield depth. So the solution is to improve the midfield. So the club goes and gets two quality midfielders. I don’t think it’s a big risk. Of all our first round picks of the last 10 years who’s killing it? More risk in the first round of the draft than trading for known quantities IMO.

I like our strategy. Trade our first round picks where it makes sense for talent, get the free agents and pick the eyes out of our later picks and the rookie draft. If we get Hopper and Taranto I’m fascinated what we’re going to do to top up our list

Bobby Hill to Collingwood for a Future 2nd round pick. GWS and Collingwood to also swap 3rd round picks.

So we were missing arguably our best mid for almost the entire year and when he played was not right and our 2nd best mid was out of the game before half time in our final. And arguably our best defensive player was missing. Do that to any side and they ain't winning the flag.

No team can cover multiple injuries to their A grdaers. None.

How did the Dees go with an injured Gawn/Petracca combo playing?

Ultimately it always comes down to a combo ofg luck/management to get your best side on the park often enough to win a Top 4 spot and then have them all fit for the finals.

We got it right in previous flag years, the Cats got it right this year.

Along with what every club needs, some injury luck.

Not a fan of Mitchell for these exact reasons

Same, same Taranto, not sure what games you have been watching but they are cut from the same cloth. There is an assumption he's a genuine dual position player but this has little to do with historical output, you are speculating with upside for a 25 year old. That's not to suggest it cannot happen but it's far from a certainty.

Pick 7 and Bowes will cost u 1 million with first rounders wage,Bowes is average and doesn't find lots of ball and isn't a goal kicker either.

Mate Dion is injured every other week now. He can’t carry the load. Dusty hasn’t played more than 80% midfield time for years. Can’t leave it to Cotchin to be the man.

Some of our young mids look good but we don’t have depth in our preferred age range in the midfield. It’s a fact.

Yeah, but we took Banks, Brown, Sonsie, Clarke, Gibcus, Bauer last year - not exactly instant gratification. And trading picks out now doesn't mean we can't get some back in later - especially if we're a hard team to break into. And of course, there's always free agency.

The draft for me is not the issue, it's managing the cap and keeping a balanced list together. These trades look like list-balance moves to cover gaps that we haven't been successful in addressing through the draft. I'm ok with that.
To me, last year, going fully into the draft, was the plan this year to trade for ready mades.

What's this dog *smile* that Adam Cooney is making up?
Graham to North?
Is he drunk?

As much as he’d get a game for north (any player would to be honest) why would he want to go to that sh** show. He has a year to go on his contract plus a trigger for another year that takes him to FA. He’s playing it smart to stay at the tiges for now and back himself in for a pay day when he’s FA. Plus he gets to 100 games with us.

This time of the year is the worst for fluff and nonsense because all they are are trying to do is fill in time with theoretical deals. It’s a talkfest and most of it is bullscheizen

Depth alone doesn't win you flags. We had the squad to win a flag. We didn't have a good enough run with injuries. The cats did. And it ain't about age. Oldest side ever won it.

They have a bad run with injury and they don't win a flag. Same with Melb from 2021. You take out one of Gawn/Petracca/Oliver have the other subbed out at half-time and also remove Lever (Grimes) from their finals team and they don't win a flag. Same with us in our flag years, we had our best players in form at the right end.

A graders win you flags, and having all your A graders out there come the pointy end wins it.

I'm hoping Taranto & Hopper are the 2 extra A graders we need. But that they also have a great injury free run.
