General Trade Discussion 2022

I'm hoping Taranto & Hopper are the 2 extra A graders we need. But that they also have a great injury free run.
I thought Grimo was a write off in his early years but then his hammies strengthened. Hopefully the same for any Hops' injuries.

Kudos to Saints supporter Mitch who phoned Trade Radio disappointed they'd missed de Goey then suggested they get someone from another code who would be good for their culture like Jarryd Hayne. Mitch has set a good standard for further trolling of Barratt.

JHF is winning that comfortably though.

Depth alone doesn't win you flags. We had the squad to win a flag. We didn't have a good enough run with injuries. The cats did. And it ain't about age. Oldest side ever won it.

They have a bad run with injury and they don't win a flag. Same with Melb from 2021. You take out one of Gawn/Petracca/Oliver have the other subbed out at half-time and also remove Lever (Grimes) from their finals team and they don't win a flag. Same with us in our flag years, we had our best players in form at the right end.

A graders win you flags, and having all your A graders out there come the pointy end wins it.

The point of having a squad is depth. Yes you need your A-graders on the park but we rely too heavily on Prestia. It’s almost a single point of failure for us. There’s no one else that can get the clearances and the contested possessions when he doesn’t play. Cats had a number of players in addition to Selwood and Dangerfield on the day that supported them. We just don’t have that. Edwards wasnt the player he was this year nor Lambert.

I’m confident Taranto and Hopper will be good additions to us. Prestia, Dusty and Cotchin are then the cream. Then you have Bolton, Baker, to a lesser extent Short going through there. A little bit of Graham, Sonsie and Ross. Thats a deep midfield and would take a fair bit of bad luck for that to not get us close to challenging for a flag.

haha what the hell was that? Then referred to jack graham as ”truck” graham. No idea

Haha Barrett is such a twat. Throwing nicknames out trying to make it look like he knows people.

Probably doesn't even know why fridge is called fridge (as he thinks he's called truck for some reason).

Recent drafts
2018 Pick 12; Zak Butters, pick 19: Liam Stocker
2019 Pick 12: Kosi Pickett, pick 19: Sam De Koening
2020 Pick 12: Tanner Bruhn, pick 19: Finn Macrae
2021 Pick 12: Josh Sinn, pick 19: Jacob Van Rooyen

Obviously no guarantees but def some handy players there.
Whilst happy with the trade, Taranto has to make an impact. It doesn't come at no cost.

The Richmond equivalent:
12 Lennon or Corey Ellis
19 Riley Collier-Dawkins or CCJ

I am backing the club's approach but not the 2022 version, I've seen how things should be done and it doesn't involve trading out of two drafts. I preferred the 2006-2016 stewardship & I reckon those who fail to see the warning signs are being caught up into the hype of instant gratification. It will be an interesting 7 years, that much is true.
The success or otherwise will be black or white. If we win a flag with TT and JH the club was right and you were wrong, vice versa if we don't.

Tom Mitchell will match the output of Taranto, at least for the next couple of years.
No he won't. Mitchell doesn't run.

may have been covered in another thread... would Jed Anderson be a trade option for us? Out of contract. Think he played well vs. us this year- as did Thomas (who is up and about currently on the rumour thread)... Not sure what Anderson would be worth pick-wise though or if he fits in our recruiting age bracket and what role he'd play?

No he won't. Mitchell doesn't run.
Taranto averaged 0.1 bounces last season, 342 metres gained & 0.4 goals. Mitchell trumped him for clearances, contested possessions and they were on par for tackles. This was also Mitchell's worst year by quite some margin. I think Taranto's contribution is being overblown.

He played most of this year forward though. GWS had to give their long term contracted and young players midfield time.

Kelly
Coniglio
Whitfield
Green
Ash
O’Halloran
Bruhn
Callahan

He got squeezed out. He’s not their best paid player. They’ve probably managed him poorly TBH. Interesting given he’s their B&F winner in a grand final year. I reckon they f’up massively with him. It happens.

Jack Riewoldt, Patrick Cripps, Taylor Adams, Lachie Weller, Daniel Talia, Tom Lynch, Brad Ebert, Shannon Hurn

Pick 13 is prime real estate, mistakes can happen but much better to highlight the success stories & not focus on the busts. None of those players listed have had enough time in the system to make a judgement one way or the other.

Pick 21 could be Keeler, now that would make for an interesting discussion in 4 years time.
