Game Day - Tiges V Freo

After this weekend, and if the Bulldogs and Saints win we are knocked down to11th.
Not a pretty picture, but that is about where we should be on current form.
Is Robo still pushing for a final top 10?
I’m all for it now.

This team is indeed a basket case

But

You cannot win

When you play three key talls that are Nankervis, Balta and Riewoldt

The first is a ruckman

The second is a backman

The third is slow and needs Lynch

This is where we lost. Crystal clear all night.
u forgot soldo.
who was a promising ruckman
but thanks to shoveit has lost all mobility & confidence.

Watched it this morning and its 50m

Cumberland barely goes off his line, appears to be winding up for a shot on goal,

And brayshaw nails him from behind.

14 premiership points forsaken by a 9 points in a months

A goal and a half out of 2nd,

Suggests we're still a pretty good side
And where was the STAND call the only time we ever needed it?
I agree that there was a man on the mark and he attempted to kick in his normal left footer arc and did not go off the line.
That's 50 for a Geelong player.

It’s the AFL’s ‘common sense ‘rule isn’t it?
Only applied when trying to explain the inexplicable.

Was dion wearing a really hard tag last night?

Got heaps of ball, but every disposal hurried.

Nothing clean

If we offload Edwards and a couple of others, (Cads, Lambert, Riley depart) we can recruit GWS elite stars.
We can contend.
Dow is persona non grata at Blueland.
Personally, think Dimma can contend for another three trophies, he has oftentimes namechecked Belichick, six-time champion NFL coach.

Most times you can tell the intelligence of some ppl by the way they speak . Listening to Balta speak, tells me he is not a bright spark
i despise this sort of criticism
says more about u than noah.
still only 22...huge potential, footy nous will grow with game time
key back much easier than key fwd

As an aside I have watched those last seconds again and there is no doubt the Freo player ran into the exclusion zone after Cumberland marked which means it really should have been a 50 metre penalty not a play on call.
Sounds like excuses, he shouldn’t have played on, but it should have been 50
Pretty hard at that moment for the umpire really as Cumberland didn't pause at all. I'm surprised Cumberland did not realise he was there. But he was not to know there was no time left nor perhaps know exactly how far out he was. I like his attacking mindset, it is his spot to lose right now.

Depends on whether the umpire called the mark, I think he did. The Freo player made no effort to stay outside the 5 metre perimeter he just ran in a straight line.
If the umpire called the mark and the player plays on immediately and has a player within the 5 metre perimeter that is 50 metres. That's what the rule is for, so if a player wants to move the ball quickly he isn't hampered by someone too close to the mark.
But did Brayshaw have time to get out of the exclusion zone if he was in it when the mark was taken? Its not 50 if he is already there.

I think those bemoaning this play are clutching at straws, the umpiring was sensational last night. We should have been 5 goals up, we "lost" this win.

They rarely call stand now. They give players time to move beyond the 5m area in most cases. Not many players actually stand the mark unless in their defensive 50.

He was a machine.

I’ve been shocked by his last few weeks; I wanted him gone a month ago.

Good on him.
Yep, agree, I was NOT HAPPY about his recruitment in the least, but has been very very good the last month or thereabouts, so I am willing to admit I was totally wrong in my assessment of him, lets hope he can keep it up, especially now knowing that Grimesy has done the Hammy again, his and Flossy's jobs have just got a lot harder.

Spot on. It’s just people looking for ways to excuse our rampant butchery, woeful decision making and complete lack of composure that has cost us wins in the last 3 games. We should be 12-6, minimum, with a finals spot done and dusted. But we will likely miss altogether. Not sure how the players come back from it this season; they look mentally shot and so does the coach. They get themselves in a position to win and freeze completely. Not just at the death either. The basic missed shots during the game are killing us and putting us in do or die positions at the end.

Cumbo clearly played on. Thinking we should have been paid a 50 is folly. But I don’t blame him. We shouldn’t have been in that position. He tried to win. Balta on the other hand needs to own his abysmal lack of judgement. Cost us the game.

Only disagree with your "umpiring was senstaional" call Jazz, thought there were many incorrect disposal frees missed in our favour when our boys were tackling fiercely and not rewarded.

Na, best umpired game I can remember. We tackled well but cannot remember any glaring mistakes.

I was thinking the same thing last night.
One of the more enjoyable games as a spectacle and definitely the best umpired Richmond game this season.
Only 1 decision that annoyed me.
