Quickly took his shot and was bumped from the side. Kicking over his mark, he thought he was safe.
Anyway, a draw. As Noah B says "Who cares?" (me)
On the bright side Marlion's final play to get the ball to Noah C was exquisite.
There was a lot of heat in the game, eZ. You saw it, brother. They did play us second to the ball at times. Knowing we'd lift our stoppage work. We get it; they heat us and take it off us. (We do a lot of that at our best.) They are big and quick. Prestia operated in the middle of that.
NB we had a ruck presence this week. No more set plays.
Dion looked jaded last week and lost the week before. I put those down to the concussion.
IMO Dion played more rusty than dazed last night. Missed the guts of a month of football due to the concussion. And a little out of touch. But was in the zone to win the ball in a hot game. Focussed.
More improvement to come.
I recon the dockers were hunting the receiver in close a la tigers at their best. Cotchin looked rushed to me too.
We are starting to play some kids which is good but that doesn't excuse the lack of urgency or at limes just not doing the basics in the game properly and that is showing up in the whole team as a unit. This problem was showing up at times last season but has got worse this season. We have the players but seem to have lost the will in so many matches with the exception of a few occasions
Prestia was great in a high pressure game. Had 21 effective disposals, 16 contested, 8 clearances, 7 score involvements, all game highs. Was my best. Cotch on the other hand, he rushed everything. Those quick 10metre kicks straight to the opposition do my head in.
We know we stuffed up the last 90 secs with two chances to win the game by Balta and Cumberland. 3 weeks in a row we seem to find a new way not to win the winnable game. Balta I'm more annoyed with because he was easily within kicking distance and took like 2 hours to kick it. Any score was likely to win the game.
Nankervis playing more forward was a disaster. Like it was a disaster when Soldo played forward V Swans in Sydney.

Another thing that has irked me was the timekeeper, who took too long to blow the siren. I have watched it like 5 times. When Pickett got the ball there were like 4 secs left, by the time he kicked it there would've been 1 sec left on the clock and by the time it landed in Cumberland's hands the siren should've just sounded. But it went like another 1-2 secs later.
We have NO captains this year pathetic....

Watched the game again this morning (what torture). Didnt see this as much live, but even more impressed with how well drilled Freo are. And their mids are like Geelong, tall and strong. good team.
There is a very good reason why Freo have been top 4 for a lot of this year, they are well drilled and well organised.
Make no mistake, they are the real deal and should be contending next year and for a few years (think they lack experience in finals this year and possibly one or two holes to fill).
When you are 8th and draw with 3rd it really isn't that bad a result, and we should have won.

That’s a very good point , you’d think after the first or sec melt down there would have been a decent head shrink session to de brief , dimma gave me the impression in presser they don’t train these finishes , it’s just the roll of the dice ,,,strange
Thing about Freo is that they have a very organised defence, it really is quite impressive. An organised defence may well see them win a final this year. I'm not convinced they are quite there, but Freo are close and this looks like a good building/getting experience year for them. If they play their cards right, maybe add a player or two for 2023, they will contend.
Roll of the dice at the end of a close game? Yeah, we look like the strategy does not change in that situation, which is silly because at the end of a close game every player is exhausted and defending a small lead is critical, as we have seen too often this year.
