Game Day - Tiges v Deez Round 20, 2023

Apologies if it has been posted or discussed. My main takeaways from being at the game
- played well, but looked out of gas a 3/4 time
- huge error subbing off Miller. Game turned permanently when Soldo went off for rest in last quarter. Gawn took over. And Balta forward left our defence exposed.

Didn't we do the same against the demons early in the year when van rooyen had a field day in the last? Looks like we are slow learners.

Looking forward to Gawn getting the same staging fine from the MRP that Merrett got.

Took a massive dive. And got a goal.

I'll be watching to see if the spud umps from today get selected next round

Graham, Cotch and Miller are woeful forwards.

Agree.

Soldo was well beaten but he really completed hard, couldn’t have asked more of him tbh. That 7-8 minutes in the last when he was off killed us

I thought he broke even for 3 quarters. Dees fans around me sooked it up that gawn wasn't beating him.

I missed a lot of the last, agree with those pointing out the defensive failure (WTF happened??) but cannot buy the Pickett hate. Had a very competitive game. I wouldn’t have played him based on form but did well today I thought. We are old and buggered up. Also, I copped a swearing warning from the mods. Thought that was a bit rich. Anyone else get one?

Don't agree. The whole team needs to be invested. Without Dusty and Bolton there would have been no close last quarter game. Dusty is 32yo. He shouldn't be relied on as our prime mover, he is past his best. Bolton actually did get a bit of the ball in the last. Dusty played mostly forward, it hardly reached there. Our prime mover midfielders are Taranto & Hopper. They've been given big 7 year deals. So why single out 2 of our best players in the game?
True but only those who were there will be able to explain Taranto. I couldn't see what Melbourne were doing exactly, but did I saw Tim complaining to the umps that he was being held. It looked on the telly like they were blocking him and trying to keep him on the wrong side of the stoppages. Needed Cotch and Mini to come up with a strategy to counter-act that but my guess is it would only have worked if Soldo could get us 1st touch. That wasn't happening.

Geez, competitive for 3 quarters and then maybe fell away or maybe Melbourne had another gear we couldn't match.

Earlier in the game it was noticeable that we were stopping their run from half back. Yes, they were getting it out but under pressure so not so easy.

Our forward line is a huge issue. I would actually take KMac off the wing, put Pickett back on a wing, and have KMac running around in the forward line. If nothing else it might separate the defence. We need more up forward, clearly Jack is no longer a number 1 key forward, replacing a player like Lynch is never easy as players that good are just damned hard to replace. Would like to see Ryan get another run this year, at least until Miller learns how to use the talent he has.

The umpiring was weird. Up until about the last 5 minutes of the second quarter they were pretty consistent with calling a ball up rather than holding the ball unless the player with the ball clearly had prior opportunity. Then they totally flipped the interpretation and started paying frees where the player with the ball barely had possession. Didn't pay holding the man as usual but that is no surprise. Paid some ridiculous 50m penalties, even that one to Balta at the end of the second was absurd, the Melbourne player should just have been quickly called back, I don't think he had even stopped when the 50 was called. The Broad no high tackle was ridiculous, but it certainly wasn't the only high tackle all 4 of them missed, so much for protecting the head. We are umpired differently, but then consistency is not something the umpires could ever be accused of.

I went without thinking we would win, just such a pity to be competitive for most of the game and then let so many goals through at the end, the margin flattered Melbourne but they are a better side than us.

Thanks for the comments earlier about my dizziness, it is diagnosed: Meniere's - no known cause, no known cure and I try to live with it as well as I can. Pity how I normally ride a bike to work, haven't been able to do that for a couple of weeks, not good enough balance. Good thing I am a Roaming Tiger member and have a seat on Level 1 and not high up in the stands!

A little emotional about it too, I used the askerick's on 3 letters too, probably should've just went with "Rooster" instead of C*** I guess....................... Hmm, maybe the admin fella thought that C word was something else ?

Yeah I got one and it was well deserved

I had a melt down at the umpiring

The Nank suspension hurt today. A Nank/Soldo combo was the perfect tonic to beat Gawn today.
