Game Day Tigers v Suns

I was too.

but I was amongst the worst footballers I ever knew.

most of the good footballers I played with had a pretty decent mongrel streak.

but yeah Marlion Pickett and Dylan Grimes-toughs are my favourite toughs

enough time has passed for me to admit Jake King secretly shitted me right off

Baker tough is best.

Apart from my lack of athleticism and talent, my other failing was a lack of mongrel when it came to sport.

What I found interesting a week or two ago , was Dimma saying something along the lines , we like it when he plays angry , we believe it brings out the best in him , and then jack said something similar last night ,

Reading between the lines , it sounds like they encourage him to play angry
Personally I'm not a fan of the false bravado. I cringe a bit when watching Lynch do it - mainly because I'd prefer he just focus on dominating his opponent like I know he can.

I get that it adds a harder edge to our forward line by having your big forward pushing and shoving - but there are other ways of doing it rather than some of the instances we have seen this year.

I think it definitely has an impact on him not receiving his fair share of free kicks as a result (even though the umpires should remain impartial). Jack has received the same treatment throughout his career (albeit in his case more as a result of him appealing for free kicks all the time - works for Ben Brown though so who knows).

Just attack the footy at full pace Tom and hurt blokes that way - that will make them think twice about impeding your path.

Im probably not a fan either to be honest, I would prefer he proved his toughness with his attack on the ball , than the swinging of the hand bags .

But in saying that, i dont lose sleep over it either .

Apart from my lack of athleticism and talent, my other failing was a lack of mongrel when it came to sport.

ive only known 3 poets to succeed at footy.

Bob Murphy, who deeply regrets his only attempt at mongrel hood, in refusing to shake Eddie Betts proffered hand;

Tim Boyle, who as a footballer, makes a good poet;

and Danny Southern, who probably combined eastern mysticism with mongreality better than anyone the game has known?

, it sounds like they encourage him to play angry

there are definitely blokes who can only play angry.

I used to coach one, and I used to get a teammate to belt him hard on the ear in the very first pack.

Its why I think Darren Weir would have made a very good football coach.

Tim Boyle gave my sons school teacher his nickname of Pulse when he was at the Pies, such was his laid back attitud to footy they didn’t think he had a pulse

there are definitely blokes who can only play angry.

I use this technique when buying a car, I deliberately don’t sleep the night before , hit the car yards grumpy an unhappy to accept any kind of deal that doesn’t involve free clear coating

So much adulation for Collins because he copped a minor one to the breadbasket, then found to be nothing in it. Great commentary Gazza and the rest at Fox!

Delighted for Brando. He is emerging as a leader at the Suns. This would not have been a natural for him when he arrived at the Tigers. Being a part of a good system has tuned him up and he now expects more of himself and his teammates and it shows. This is easier to say after a win than a loss, but it was great to see the spirit he played with and his attempts to push them over the line. That goal he got from George trying to pull off a fully-inverted-flying-frankensteiner, Black Widow-style,

952e753e00ddf2d4c7b77b855cfb536e.gif

was a testament to his gut running. He was instrumental in the contest on our 50 and pushed up the ground and provided an option and was overlooked but kept pushing until he made that contest with George.

Anyone notice Ellis in the 4thQ, Kicks a goal and then tried to run through Mabior Chol ?
What was that about?

Yep I saw that. I remember distinctly the surprised look on Mabior's face...If Tommy did that there would have been a riot!

Actually I thought it was more of an accident, Ellis seemed to be internally "celebrating " goal, when he looked up Chol was there & he just sort of bumped into him.
Imo there was no malice in it.

Collins looked like a fool storming up and down and punching padding, a grandstanding high school kid craving attention, the media looked like bigger fools giving him any credit or attention for doing it. The whole thing is pathetic and reflects badly on the football media.

Having said all that, that may be his career highlight.

Just got a bit over excited, that's all. More clumsy than malicious. Love Brando!
By the way, fantastic scenes after the game with Brando and his lifelong hero teammates.
