Game Day Tigers v Suns

Thank you, Easy, for the observation on Tim Boyle's writing. I had thought he might die unrecognised.

I've only read the one work. Mastery. In it Boyle comments on delusion, mythologising and the cult of AFL.

The magical moment that won the mythic match? Boyle was there at the very instant. He says it was an accident. Blow-by-blow, an accident.

That's how you poetry.

Now down to GCS.

We flogged them. But as you've all seen tonight they have no midfield. Not a single strike mid. And they're *smile*.

*But what about that champion 18yo who tears games apart?* Well. His erstwhile conspicuousness testifies to the lack of midfielders they have.

At GCS they miss the great and dominant Matt Rowell because he is by far their best mid. At 18yo. I'm not potting Rowell - it's their other mids.

Who are they? In the absence of the great and dominant five-gamer Matt Rowell, Hugh Greenwood is their #1 mid. He might get that gig at Adelaide. But is a certainty at GCS. North Melbourne? Interesting idea.

The bloke is spare parts. #1 mid at GCS.

David Swallow. He's rugged. Fearless. He packs some hurt, just will hurt. If he gets the ball it's bad. Or a disaster. And his off the ball work is historically stupid. Sure it's a free kick but at least the bloke is slow to take it. I like this but I can't remember worse dumb and/but I am very old. Oh, no. Don't run in and do that. No. Not Swallow. He's close to their #1 mid role, eclipsed by Hugh Greenwood, FXS.

In the Swallow household Andrew was the physicist. Still, I like David's indomitable. And I like it that he brings pain. Physicists aren't supposed to do that. The Swallow Oath and so on.

Weller? Outside and ok. Classy but doesn't do enough in total. 17 touch player. Why are we even talking about him? Can win it but then is often out of position to finish, and that's what he's good at and is not prolific. Lack of frequency. Batting way too high there. M7 at best. Not an inside player but finds himself there. Nowhere near a #2 draft choice and batting way too high. Whoever did that deal should have been Capuanoed. At halftime. Months ago.

Touk Miller. Misunderstood. A very small. Neat skills. Outside player. Good runner but not a true ball-winner. Still a bit flaky in use. M6. Bats at #2.

Greenwood. Swallow. Miller. Weller. SRSLY? That is not an AFL midfield. Brandon. He might be a #5 in a bad side.

I've watched them all year. Short-term coaching wins. Long-term talent dearth.

Geelong humiliated Port, as we should have but instead recorded 24/55 I50s. Wow. We were *smile* awful.

Carlton arrogantly put on a Harlem Globetrotters performance (from the first bounce) against GCS. 7.18 to 4.3. 27 shots to 12. Masssacre. What made it interesting was that David Teague clearly anticipated that.

The week earlier it was Richmond v GCS. 8.5 to 4.8. (22 shots to 9.)

The small matter of the 24/55 I50 count against Port NotMuchGood

Our form stinks.

So Gold Coast, a lot of talk about their class list (and admittedly they are fielding a young side atm) but after a 3-1 start they have won just one game since and could easily lose their last 3 games and end up 16th. That would make it bottom 4 for last 7 years in a row. They've been an amazing failure.
