Game Day Tigers V Giants

Really feel we let this one slip. I hope it's not important come year's end. Umpiring not great but the reality is we've got nobody to blame but ourselves.
Bad kicking is bad footy & our forward line has been misfiring for most of the year..

This is a reoccurring issue.
Hardwick hasn't fixed this in 5 weeks.
Stack our back and we cant score.
Is there any chance we can find a player that can mark the ball in a pack.
It was humiliating watching Greene take pressure releasing marks on the half back line, while players like Rioli, Castagna, Graham and Higgins fumbled all night.

its funny but I feel the opposite. They had all their guns in, we had heaps out, we took it up to them, and looked like we could have nearly pulled it off. Everything had to go right, it didn't.

We blew it it was gawling and I'm still furious.

Just for a few *smile* kicks at goal.

As good as Shai has been hes got to do better with his conversion, that last quarter miss at the start couldve been the momentum swinger had he converted.

The outs this year are not coming back.
The year is over next month.
Hocking has given us the draw to finish us off.
Caddy won't be back to at least around 16-17.
Houli and Edwards haven't even given the club a date to enter the hub.
Prestia and Nakas have more chance winning the Stawell Gift then coming back this year.
But who knows Hardwick has a history of playing players not 100% right.

Lynch can take a pack mark, not doing it so much this year, but with the forward line not performing he is getting triple teamed.

Riewoldt and the small forwards need to lift, they have a long way to go before they are near what they should be doing.

We score 13% of the time going inside 50.
Did you see McIntosh.
All clear no one near and just booted it towards goal.
He was happy he scored.
Lynch broken hand or not, at GC he was a dead eye *smile*, he is fify at 30 out. We couldve been 2 up in the first 3 minutes of the game.
We haven't got players that are deadly in front of goal, its all hit and miss.
*Castagna no chance
*Rioli, you need to get possession to kick a goal.
*Higgins, close to the worsw decision maker in the team.
*Riewodlt kicks at goal like a 80 yr old.
*Pickett god help us.
*McIntosh makes Conca look like Josh Kelly.
*Short, for a so called super boot hasnt kicked a goal.
Soldo cant take a contested mark.

Worrying signs.

Looks like we are easy to crack without our pressure game and speed being on point.

Its all over.
There's huge cracks in our game.
Sydney almost beat us.
Hardwick hasn't got the balls to drop Riewodlt and change up the forward line.
You cant go into forward 50, 18 more times and still find a way to lose.
Hardwick needs to come up with a front 6, that will have a blend of contested marking players
and crumbling smalls.
Currently its all over the joint.
Thats properly the 6th game this year ive seen the oppostion sweep the ball out of forward line, without any pressure.
It started against Collingwood and nothing has changed.

No I don't believe we won time in possession. We lost that, disposals, tackles, marks, clearances, contested posses, disposal efficiency, 1%ers. We won inside 50s but what's the point if you just bomb it in? There's only 1 stat that matters in the end, the final score.

We wasted opportunities but let them score too easily on their entries as well. The opposition game plan is pretty consistent now against the Tigers. Stack our forward line and slingshot the other way.

You could do that against side

Fwd line is a big concern. Lynch and Jack ... hmmm it’s an interesting one... really can’t afford to play both at the moment. Both are so slow and are just completely ineffectual when the ball hits the deck.... and really it doesn’t suit our brand at all. In 2017 things really turned around when the second tall Griffiths went down injured and we were forced to change our set up to the mobile Riewoldt, Caddy and his band of amigos. We tried Elton in 2018 as that second tall and it didn’t work.... then 2019 Lynch basically was the lone wolf with jack injured all year. Sure jack came back and the rest is history - but if you put the GF aside - the setup has never really looked that good.

Feel like teams have worked us out in respect to getting a number back and making an outnumber on our talls. This isn’t rocket science but our our ground ball game is nowhere near what it once was to cover this. The Rioli, Butler, Castagna set up has been unbelievably effective over the years - not letting any balls out once it came to ground. We are badly missing that element.
Aarts is a goer - but lacks class.
Rioli - completely out of sorts
Higgins - decent season but is slow and can’t kick 40mts
Castagna - is being used up the ground and form has dwindled.
Bolton - lost him to the midfield now (a positive)

zips is right - we need to find a combination down there with more variety. Perhaps a hybrid type like Markov who is quick, a good mark and from his VFL work - seems a decent shot for goal.

Maybe Baker is needed to add some class up there. Maybe stack needs another run there.Perhaps it’s time to see CCJ or run with one of Lynch/Jack and Chol.

I dunno what the answer is but the set up at the moment is not working whatsoever.

Exactly.

Worked out.
Smalls there ineffective.
Predictable bombing.
Teams flooding our backline .

Time to try something different real quick, otherwise we will be playing catch up and we don’t have the luxury of 22 games, MCG, our fans.

But at the same token we’ve let two games/wins behind with our domination of quarters for little reward

I thought GWS were quite physical tonight. Egg only played 64% game time for some reason. I like him. Can get the ball and disposes well.
Egg has upside, Houli was pretty poor physically when he started but worked on it. If egg has half the career he will be a decent player. Houli is the template for him. Egg is a better kick.

No doubt... straight kicking = scoreboard pressure = gets the game won. This was a game for the taking!

I thought it was our pressure game that kept us in the game. Our ability to lock it in our forward 50 was exceptional. Our backline is very good but still gets exposed when it is brought in very quickly.

I think there are a lot of positives from the game. Our system kept us in the game against a full strength giants team full of first round picks in their prime. It was our poor execution, young team and poor kicking that lost it. Far too many passengers unfortunately. But I reckon the same team will be much better next week.

Nash in for Caddy is a huge step down in presence and size. There are limits in how many kids we can play, and it felt like one too many.

Out of interest, would anyone know what is our goal conversion at the MCG versus other grounds? I reckon we play there so much and know the ground so well, we get lost a little aiming for the sticks at other grounds.

Everything you have just written is so right.

The Tigers were missing in just about every stat except forays into forward zone.

As you posted bad kicking is bad football and that is how it was last night.

No good comes from bagging certain players, it is a team game, and sure some were below best, but quite a few did OK.

Whilst we continue to just bomb into the forward line we will continue to struggle to kick goals.

Where is our running game these days? We are now just stopping and kicking long, no flow like in the past.

As Bruce pointed out our dominance in recent years is built on 38-4 record at G. He didn't give the stats but we might only be 50% away from home?
