Game Day Tigers V Giants

I don't mind an over officiated game if it's consistent. But holding the ball is just a lottery now. Nobody understands it! Castagna decision needs an official afl apology like the saints got

Holding the ball has always been difficult to adjudicate but this year's change has turned it into a joke. Umps have no idea how to call it.

Give the boys some more time, let them get the chance just like the rest if the best have had.
We won the game in the important areas that normally get a win.
The flag will be won in October this year, we will be there or abouts.

It seemed that if Dusty or Shai weren't breaking it out of the middle we struggled, that next rung of mids were poor whether that was Graham, Pickett or anyone else.

Dimma has just said in his press conference they were disappointed in the midfield group and Cotchin comes back, Stack was good today and RCD will be there abouts so sounds like those 3 may come in.

I called it from the start the one big question mark on Naish is his attack on the footy which is bordering on zero.

I do not care if he's only played a few games it's either in you or it isn't. must go out, we played one player down.
Ross or stack should've played, heck even Marcov.

Rioli did some ok things late but most of the game was a passenger.
Graham diabolical, Pickett was also poor.

The funny thing here is we still should've won, 14 more inside 50's, more scoring shots.
Too many easy shots missed at goal, 6 goals 14 wow!

Agree with most of that. Close to worst game I've ever seen him play. Rioli is annoying me immensely with his lack of commitment. 3 of the 14 behinds were rushed but we did lose the game due to missed chances. Could have nearly ended the game much earlier.

Disagree with Egg, showed last week what he can do.
Against the softest most inept side I’ve seen this year. Egg is a question mark. Was great last week but very poor tonight. Is a nice user by foot. Hopefully improves the contesded stuff. I see no future for Naish has played the same way every time I’ve seen him.

We smashed them everywhere from time in possession, inside 50’s. The stats that matter.
As we keep pointing out to Chris Fagan the only stat that matters is the scoreboard stat. We kicked 6.14 and lost by 2 goals.

We were extremely inept against a team that flew the white flag in the last quarter and a half. If we were at 3/4 of our form from 2017-19 we win that game by 5 goals minimum tonight.

We are miles off it.

I thought GWS were quite physical tonight. Egg only played 64% game time for some reason. I like him. Can get the ball and disposes well.

I don't think we are miles off. We were thereabouts for much of the game and were coming, but if people don't think umpires don't impact games, you only need to look at the unpaid Chol mark. There wasn't another finger on it, but even if it had grazed one those marks have been paid for 100 years as they are marks. I think we were within 2 goals at that point, so bring the game to a 1 goal game, though GWS rebound and take it down our end. The swing in momentum from that point was huge. The other one that really swung the momentum was the free paid against Soldo for HTB at the start of the 3rd. There were at least 4 or 5 similar occurences of the exact same thing happening throughout the 2nd half, where a ruckman picks the ball off the ground and on the way up is tackled and ball held in. Only 1 was paid, the one against Soldo and enabled GWS to break into F50 and kick a goal, then kicked a 2nd from the next bounce with the same momentum.

In a 2 goal loss, those type of things really hurt.

Yeah agree about the Chol mark that was an horrendous decision. Also agree about the umpiring. That said we still should have won. Our goal kicking and general forward line play was just shitful. I reckon GWS are well off it too; that's what I'm basing it on. They flew the white flag in the last quarter and a half and we still couldn't beat them.

We've beaten 4 of the bottom 8 sides including 2 of the worst 3 teams. We still have to play most of the top 8 teams including 3 at their home venues. We're struggling and don't have long to try and turn it around.

It will haunt us, it could be critical
Reckon that loss and the Scum draw will cost us a top 4 spot. But they way we're playing top 8 is not even a certainty.

We seriously got to work out how to combat the flood and get that shambolic forward line working.

Disagree with Egg, showed last week what he can do. Naish I'm not sold on, l think lack of hardness will always be his issue and therefore you need to be exceptionally skilled to counter that
No he lacks hardness and he needs to be gone. Unfortunately he has a contract next year so he won’t be going anywhere.

Yes it was a sh!tfull game from naish but give him a chance. Would have done no real contact work the last month or so. Maybe he is not going to make it but as no one seemed particularly outraged when he was picked I assume a lot of the delist naish immediately sentiment is based on one very very poor game

Well we certainly have some things to fix up.

We should have won that game, so why didn't we?

The entries into our 50 are still miles off being where they need to be.

Once it is inside 50 the crumbers are missing in action and the talls just can't seem to get any space, not that getting space would work at the moment as it seems to get bombed in every time (well, I would say marginal improvement on a few weeks ago, but delivery into our forward 50 has a long way to go).

One thing I noticed tonight was that our backline was off once the ball hit the ground. We just couldn't seem to stop opposition scoring in situations we would normally handle a lot better. GWS scored 53% of the time they went inside 50, 53%! That does not happen to our backline normally and clearly they need to tighten up a bit.

Too many passengers, we all know who they are just look at the posts above. I think Rioli has had enough chances, I can't see a reason to keep him in the side at the moment, along with a few others.

One really does need to question the forwards coach, ball is bombed in and there seems to be no structure in our forward line. It is a mess. Every team gets flooded these days, we need to do a lot better.

The umpiring was, as usual, woeful. That holding the ball decision against Aarts in the first quarter was ridiculous. He had about a nanosecond of prior opportunity, if that. But, I thought, ok, if this is the new interpretation then just pay the frees when the same thing happens. Why am I not surprised that nothing of the sort happened? Because the umpires were their usual, grossly inconsistent, bunch of incompetents. As for Chol's mark, WTF? Not sure how much it cost us because gross inconsistency affects both teams. This is the best we can expect of umpiring in this game at the highest level?

Oh well, if we have to do this the hard way I suppose that is just how it is, the players know they need to lift and we know we have some quality to come back in.

I disagree. Front runner for Houli replacement at this stage but still has a lot to learn. Only played 5 games. I'm willing to back the untried young players. Houli's not a hard player but has had a sterling career. You need a balance in a team.

A recurring theme, but the biggest concern is the lack of a functional forward line and effective delivery into the F50.
We fix that and we win lots of games. Simples

8 premiership players out & we get beaten by 2 goals.
Giants aren't that flash, we're not that bad.

True. Disappointing to lose, don’t get me wrong but we had all those experienced players out. We were extremely inaccurate and we had 6 players in with less than 20 games experience
And we only lost by 2 goals to last years grand finalist at their home ground.
like I said disappointing to lose but it’s not the end of the world

Really feel we let this one slip. I hope it's not important come year's end. Umpiring not great but the reality is we've got nobody to blame but ourselves.
Bad kicking is bad footy & our forward line has been misfiring for most of the year..

We certainly did let it slip and it will be costly I reckon, especially with the Collingwood disaster.

Those few missed goals can in effect cost you your season in the wash up, when you end up finishing 6th 7th or 8th instead of 2nd 3rd or 4th especially in a compromised contrived season.

its funny but I feel the opposite. They had all their guns in, we had heaps out, we took it up to them, and looked like we could have nearly pulled it off. Everything had to go right, it didn't.
