Game Day Tigers v Demons

Didn't he have prior? HB to DRioli was on but kept the ball thinking there was a better option? That's prior these days Just a poor decision and he's making far too many of those.
Agree Leon. If it's the one I'm thinking of that's HTB all day every day. Had prior, could have handballed but chose not to, slipped over (again) and got caught. Not sure we can complain about that one.

Happiest ive been watching the Tiges for a while now. Samson much better this week. Dusty lacking the old magic but working better this week and hopefully can build on this. Short back certainly helped. Centre clearance work was an improvement. Rucks and onballers had a better read from 1st bounce. More desperation and commitment. Back yaself lads. Cotchin turned back the clock around the ground. Backline was good and I get that Hardwick needed to roll the dice with something to win but Balta out of the backline really hurt us down. Broad back next week will help. 8 see where hugos run at the end could of been a help but it wasnt.
Lots of young kids the past few weeks but they didnt seem as lost this week. Its a transistion. Melbourne are more settled but some good signs for the tigers most of the match.
Wasnt the blowout i expected. And thats a positive as well. We fought. Umpires paid more deserved frees to us than i can remember. Olivers throw in the last was garbage miss.
Kicked poorly after half time and thats the difference but thems the breaks. I dont normally feel like this after a loss but i saw good signs. Endeavour.
Suggesting Brown and Banks are wasted picks …well we havent seen them yet.
Lighten up folks … it aint all doom and gloom.

Absolutely gutted.
The only time Oliver and Petrecca didn't really destroy us. And we still lost.
To a kid that 99% of the recruiting experts had us selecting.
Mansell
Ralph Smith
Rioli
Miller
Clark
Big V
Pickett

All shouldve stayed home
Nice draft if we went Gibcus Van Royan Sonsie with Clarke

If we're going to be realistic, imo there are 4 younger/fill-in players in today's line-up that simply aren't good enough at AFL level. Miller, Young, Mansell and M Rioli. Ralphsmith is line-ball. Players today who are on their last legs, Cotchin, Dusty, Grimes, Reiwoldt, Vlastuin, Prestia, Pickett, KMac. Add to that list, Tarrant, Lynch, Broad and Nanks who have seen better days, where are we, in the short-term going to find players of the calibre of those who took us to our premiership years, especially now we've given up 3x1st rounders and a second over 2 years? We'll be stuck with an abundance of highly speculative players. This is why I don't think we should have picked up both Taranto and Hopper. Their prime is now and we're not going to be very competitive for quite some time. From a list management perspective we're in a bit of trouble. Same mistakes made as Hawks it seems.
Definitely not pleasant bed time reading material.

1.5 wins from 6 games. That's ugly. Very tough to come back from there. Quite frankly we don't seem capable of playing well enough to win enough games. We play well in patches but can not put it together for a whole game. Have not played well for a whole game all season. That doesn't cut it.

The club has told us that we won't be bottoming out and that we want to be in a position to contend every year. Traded players in to meet that goal. Still early but 16th place after a quarter of the season is gone is nowhere near where anyone expected us to be. Long way to go but it's really not looking good. Hard to win games when you just continually give the ball back to the opposition and miss easy shots at goal.

It was a no brainer pick. Still annoys me. Key back, key forward locked up in one draft.

Van Rooyen is special. And hard, hits the ball at full tilt and has a great leap.

Lot of doubters on here as well. Our list would look so much better with him.

Said it already but our senior players aside from Jack aren’t giving the team enough.

There are no answers to this problem - no club would have answers to this problem.

Only way forward is via a fresh list. The path to that list is the great question.

Fix this we would be top 4 right now (5-1).

Not sure if it’s fixable because it’s been 6 games in a row.

Don’t think Van Rooyen is anything special. Kicked a few goals late on undersized defenders. Did nothing until then.

Melbourne is a one trick pony with Gawn, Oliver, Petracca & Viney. Heaven help them if Gawn gets injured again.

Our list balance leaves a lot to be desired.

We are lacking a medium marking forward. Someone that can take the pressure off Jack and Lynch.

Samson was great tonight. He is much better is much better in the dry.

Cumberland great but needs to stay in games longer. But his defensive efforts were great all night.

Dusty back to 80% of his best. If he kicked 2 goals we would be saying at his best.

Thought Cotch was important up forward.

Taranto got more ball than Oliver and 10 tackles. Beast

Hopper I thought set us up well. Got a knock at the wrong time. No 50 in that but.

Now the negatives:
- Vlastuin. Not standing up as I would expect. If he's not turning it over via brain fades he's loosing his feet at critical stages

- McIntosh. I know he tries had bit he never looked dangerous tonight. 9 touches. He should be providing a third marking target forward or intercepting back. Think he needs a spell.

- Mansell. WTF did he do. Nice goal but 4 touches and 1 tackle. Doesn't cause panic like MRJ. Doesn't look dangerous. Just not sure what's there.

So much for that draft being our future. Brown, Banks and Clarke not showing AFL qualities yet.

HTF Matt Clarke gets away with the criticism he deserves is beyond me.
Unbelievable how bad it is.
There was a chance to pitch another flag. There's no stand out. We out scored Collingwood after half time, and they are the acclaimed champions at the moment.

But these guys we have getting paid to watch kids. Are they really watching them? or they selecting them because they are good at school or they come from a good family.
We aren't anything like hawthorn we have been successful and we have had kept our quality picks over those year's but they shouldve been dropped in the bin.
It has stopped any possibility of Cotch Martin BigV Grimes had of winning another flag.
There are people on this forum that are better at selecting the kids then the blokes we have getting paid to do the job.
It's just not good enough..take out Mansell Ralphsmith Clarke Miller Rioli and replace them with at least 3 or 4 quality high picks.
We would be sitting comfortably in the 8.
The lack of development and fitness is always been our Achilles heal. And it's so evident now

You may be right but that was not what the club was thinking at all. They clearly thought we weren't that far away. 16th place tells a different story.

Agree our recruitment team is a real concern moving forward.
They have butchered the draft these last few years.

JVR is a second year KPF who has made his way into a team that is contending for a premiership. We all know bigs take longer to develop. He looks to be doing well.

The bloke we took instead is a flanker (of which we have millions) who has not looked like cracking for a game; granted he is injured at the moment. With our KPF stocks thinning out due to the ageing of Jack and Tom, JVR would have been a great fit. Brown is a easily replaceable.

Hindsight I know but right now it looks as if we erred. Just don't get why we select so many flankers. If they were genuine mids it'd be more understandable.

He and all our backs have to wake up. The game rules have changed. AFL do not care about fair play or abiding by a coherent, consistent set of rules. They want sports entertainment i.e. which means plenty of speed and scoring. So umps will ping backs for very little in order to create goals. Backs get crucified these days with petty penalties for soft goals. Defenders get rare time to dispose of it.

We even got that one from Cumbo against Lever. Nonsense rules for TV market and $$$$$$$$$$
