Game Day thread - Rnd 18 vs Norf

When you kick 22 points it’s not about luck it’s about poor goal kicking and absolutely wasting opportunities.
I meant no luck in having them fluking goals which pressures us in the margin getting bigger, but you're right in that we just bomb for the best.

I assume the coaches also coach them to kick like 3 year olds too?? Sometimes the players have to take the responsibility and some of them failed miserably.
Same in the 2nds. In fact, I can't see any system, just kick and hope. Our marking in non-existant.

The system is there, you can see it at the games. The problem in the first half is there was very little effort. I haven't seen that *smile* poor an effort from a Richmond team in years, maybe they just thought it would happen but either way it was poor. The kicking for goal is all on the players.

Easy to hang it on Aarts but the game was lost when we gave up 7 goals in a row.
We must have the most 'run on's" against.
Carlton round 1 from 20 down they won by 25.
Stkilda from 25 down to a 6 goal win.
Sydney 6 straight.
GC 8 out of 10
We can't defend. 666 has finally derailed.
You can't win games these days, scoring only from D50.
Prestia dosent look 100% to me.

After the 3 flags I made a promise to not get upset with a tiger game again. That didn't last long.

I know we are all disappointed but there is no way in the world that a 3 time premiership coach is not a good coach.
Have a look at Clarkson's last few years at the hawks, it was very underwhelming.
Coaches reach their use by date but Dimma has been a great coach of RFC .
Don't explain yourself. Hardwick is a tremendous coach. Motivation and teaching are his strengths.
We aren't Richmond 2019.

We had 50 tackles for the game
Compared to adel vs Collingwobbles who had 107 vs 126
Can't tackle when your 23 metres behind.
Pickett, Edwards, Flappers, Cibcus, Riewoldt, Nakas, Vaulstin and Short all could've stayed home.
They did sweet FA today to help us win.
Special mentions to The New Hungry Bolton, 2 weeks to warm up Balta and lost In space Graham.
Can our defenders learn to punch the ball forward not sideways or backwards
It has been a horrible 2 weeks

Rough month. 2, 3 and 4 point loss where in all games we are ahead with a few minutes to go. And one win against eagles.

Not surprising everyone has given up. Think I’ll check back in when we beat Freo.

Same here Harry. I just never thought we'd fall in a heap as bad as this though. Red's right about Geelong. They maintain consistency well every season, flag or no flag.

Edwards had 11 disposals, zero tackles and no scoring impact... How long can he be carried? Two more games to 300, make him the sub.

we're still in the 8. And we've beaten Geelong in every final we've met them in bar 95, and we would have beat them this year if they hadn't targetted Dion. Go and barrack for them if you want. Be my guest.

We have become a mentally weak football team.

Undisciplined, no composure, panicky and lacking concentration to the task at hand (ie the pitiful defensive setup for Zurhaars last goal).

We should have won that game. It really is as simple as that. We should have won.

67 to 46 inside 50s

33 to 22 scoring shots.

Clearly we missed way too many shots, shots which were not just gettable but should be kicked well over 50% of the time. But it goes deeper than just missed shots.

Discussing this at the game, our forward 50 entries were so difficult, we just made very hard work of getting it into our 50 and going for goal when we did get it in there. In contrast, North waltzed into their forward line and it looked so much easier. A tonne of work to do on getting the ball inside 50. We get a lot of inside 50s, but quality inside 50s, not so much. Yes, opposition teams flood, what's new, but there were spaces in the forward line at times and no-one leading into the space.

Down back the example talked about above when Zurhar kicked the winning goal was indicative of the way our defence has been playing all year. Where were the defenders, why was it so easy for Zurhar to run through the pack, find space and time and then take the shot? Add to that the way most of our defenders go up for the spoil, spoil it to the front of the pack where there are half a dozen opposition players and not one Richmond player. Has been happening all year. You want to score against Richmond, just wait at the front of the pack and you can get a cheap possession because there will be no-one there for Richmond. Our positioning around packs has been woeful this year. How did Jack Dyer describe it - always where the ball isn't.

North played reasonably well but the loss is on us, we lost that game. The pressure was just non existent. Without that pressure, and with our terrible record at clearances, we are no chance of beating anyone, as proved today when we lost to one of the worst teams I've seen in years.

Must do something about the midfield, we let way too many clean clearances go. Opposition teams get the ball, spread and get quality inside 50s against us way too easily.

There seems to be little or no on-field leadership this year. I don't know what it is. Never liked co-captaincy and like it even less now. But I notice less talking and less setting up for clearances and the like. Much work to do here too.

Umpiring was the usual Dog's Breakfast. It was a mess all over the place. Umpires calling frees and pointing the wrong way and everyone is confused because none of them can work out who was getting the free. Just woeful. Players tackled and clearly holding the ball, not paid, then a player gets tackled with no prior and suddenly it is. Players grabbed without the ball and its play on, another player gets barely touched and its holding the man. Woeful.

Docklands. What can you say about that place? It is weird. There is no atmosphere there. The whole stadium just seems to suck the life out of a game of football. Doesn't help that they had about two thirds of the top deck unavailable. No wonder only 22k turned up. Have to go to that sh!thole again next week too. Not so bad this week I suppose, it was an away game, but next week I lose my usual seat on level 1 and will have to trudge upstairs to level 3 for a look at the game (can't they get some sort of arrangement for reserved seat and reserved bay members at that craphole?). There really is something drastically wrong with that place, my daughter said it feels like a shopping centre.

One last thing which has been p!ssing me off for a long time. The coaches' press conferences. You listen to the coach answer the questions, but you can't hear the questions. I even turned captions on and the captions couldn't make sense of the questions. How about a roving microphone at press conferences, or even 2 roving microphones so you can swap each question? This is pretty basic, you see microphones in the audience at question time at all sorts of events, but a microphone amongst a small group of journos at a press conference is clearly too difficult for the AFL. Bunch of amateurs.

Easy to blame the coach and coaches but don't think we have the players atm .
We have a aging injury prone list . Our youngers not good enough or not ready yet . Our midfield is uuggg .

Going to be a very interesting off season for us!
Come on so many clubs have injuries we got a few back today to , no excuse for not beating a side that's loss 14 in a row and everyone belted we made roos look like a top 4 side to much excuses for me.The whole football department hold your head in shame last 2 weeks cost us our season.

No issues with the kids rather loose with them what took to long to debut Cumberland , Sonsie , Ryan or Stack hasn't played. We play George , Aarts. Why keep playing Edwards completely out of form.Cut this bs playing players out of position hasn't worked either.

Who played in the vfl game that you would pick?

So much going through my mind. Our midfield is non existant. The position that we are not a clearance team has to change. We need to become a clearance team (I.e. we need to at least break even).

I also think most players are under performing at the moment. Going through the team:

1. Vlastuin - *smile*
2. Grimes - ok
3. Prestia - *smile*
6. Tarrant - good
7. Baker- *smile*
8 Jack - *smile*
9 Cotchin- *smile*
10. Edwards - ultra *smile*
15. Short - *smile*
17. Rioli - *smile*
21. Balta - *smile*
25. Nank - *smile* first half, dug in 2nd half
28. Gibcus - *smile*....he's a gun defender, let's play him there. Forward and ruck???FMD
29. Bolton - *smile*
33. McIntosh - worst *smile*...close to being Castagna'd. Everything he touched turned to *smile*
34. Graham - alright, close to shut
35. Broad - *smile*
38. Cumberland - good at the start, rest was *smile*
40. Sonsie - *smile*....his defensive stuff is non existant.
45 Ralphsmith - *smile*.. spent the week watching reruns of his.media work during the week
47. Miller - *smile*
50. Pickett - *smile*

Saying that we’re tired, old. Lost the passion. Not sure that’s making excuses is it ? Huh ?
I think it is. Yes we are old but the talent is still there. This team has become complacent and bad habits have crept in. But still you should never lose a game of football against a pub team like North.
