Harsh when the bloke himself literally BLED for this Club.
Like any of us, he has mouths to feed and bills to pay.
Uncalled for IMO.
I think he was very well paid by RFC in his football career from the outset as the star F/S super athlete player. Which provided him with the opportunities he has franked since finishing his playing career. He wasn't doing it for peanuts ... like Royce Hart did and had his body messed up badly for his efforts.
Sure, I loved him as a Richmond player; maybe my all-time favorite besides Royce and Dusty. And sure, he needs and wants to make a good living like we all want to do, but another guy in the media who cops a lot of flak on here (and usually deserves it) is prepared to say what he thinks bluntly, seems to still be forging a successful media career without being afraid to go into bat for his former club quite unashamedly too. Or just express a strong, critical opinion. Tell me once you have noticed Richo do so, or really go hard defending his former club in his match commentary? It's all softly, softly. Don't rock the boat. Don't say anything by which I can be accused of backing the Tigers.
Richo seems like an apologist for RFC - as if his failure to achieve the greatest of success is a reason to be craven and grovelling. His playing career was admirable. As a commentator, I find him bland and shallow, rarely if ever willing to take a stand on any issue re RFC. During games, he is too timid and weak re events we all see onfield in terms of umpiring travesties or inequities dished out to our players and simply goes with the flow. Another Hamish type.
Just as I type, he's turned up on Ch.7 post-game in Lions scarf and cap. Says it all. Is he still on a retainer from RFC for his promotional work? Give me a break. There's a name for this ... but I'll leave it at that.
Clearly the $$$ has far surpassed any loyalty to RFC. Anything else is just for keeping the money coming in.
