Game Day - rnd 16 vs Brions at the Gabba 2023

Can we please retire the Hugo as the sub strategy. I get it, he runs fast. Then what? Can we at least try Banks.

Well we did score a goal in the last quarter because he typically missed his 25 metre target by 20 metres. Kicked it straight over his head and fortuitously Juddy was there to run on to the loose ball on goal. That was pretty funny.

But yeah; Hugo ain't up to it. Lacks skill and a footy nous.

Just have to hope the flu went through the whole squad - if you are 5% off at AFL then doesn't work.

Just didn't turn up at all outside the first 10 minutes.

Its the ones that they are not giving us that stand out like dogs balls.

Hmm, you know, I'm sure I saw that we were 12-9 ahead in free kicks at half time,

End of the game, we still have 12 frees.

Did we just go for half a game without a free kick? Did Brisbane seriously go for a whole half without breaking any rules?

I'll admit, Brisbane had no pressure on them, but not only is this ridiculous, it is all too common for Richmond to get no frees for long periods of time.

Anyway, a totally forgettable game. The players just didn't seem to be there, such a woeful effort. They need to get their act together next week as Sydney smacked us last time and the way we played tonight they will do it again.

The frustrating aspect is that terrible pass will go down as a goal assist. He couldn’t hit the Earth parachuting.

I don't think so. I checked last quarter before the end of the game and it was 9-9. I saw us receive 3 frees in quick succession late in the last.

Very few would claim that. Most know we have big issues in the key forward department.
Talls in general I reckon, rucks not great tonight either, that U12 tactic of taking the ball out of the ruck and kicking it blindly to the opposition is wearing thin… might work when it’s pissing rain but hard to fathom when it’s not.

Harsh when the bloke himself literally BLED for this Club.

Like any of us, he has mouths to feed and bills to pay.

Uncalled for IMO.
I think he was very well paid by RFC in his football career from the outset as the star F/S super athlete player. Which provided him with the opportunities he has franked since finishing his playing career. He wasn't doing it for peanuts ... like Royce Hart did and had his body messed up badly for his efforts.

Sure, I loved him as a Richmond player; maybe my all-time favorite besides Royce and Dusty. And sure, he needs and wants to make a good living like we all want to do, but another guy in the media who cops a lot of flak on here (and usually deserves it) is prepared to say what he thinks bluntly, seems to still be forging a successful media career without being afraid to go into bat for his former club quite unashamedly too. Or just express a strong, critical opinion. Tell me once you have noticed Richo do so, or really go hard defending his former club in his match commentary? It's all softly, softly. Don't rock the boat. Don't say anything by which I can be accused of backing the Tigers.

Richo seems like an apologist for RFC - as if his failure to achieve the greatest of success is a reason to be craven and grovelling. His playing career was admirable. As a commentator, I find him bland and shallow, rarely if ever willing to take a stand on any issue re RFC. During games, he is too timid and weak re events we all see onfield in terms of umpiring travesties or inequities dished out to our players and simply goes with the flow. Another Hamish type.

Just as I type, he's turned up on Ch.7 post-game in Lions scarf and cap. Says it all. Is he still on a retainer from RFC for his promotional work? Give me a break. There's a name for this ... but I'll leave it at that.
Clearly the $$$ has far surpassed any loyalty to RFC. Anything else is just for keeping the money coming in.

I don't want to hear excuses but something was seriously wrong tonight with the majority playing well under par. They never wanted the game and it showed

We need more of our kids taken in the Matt Clarke era to come on. Balta and Baker were good gets in 2017 but after that tonight we had Miller, Ross, Hugo, Ryan, Young and Juddy. I am not sure any of those get a game in a top four team.

what is it with our set up? Every dump kick goes to opposition, every kick
Yep, it's maddening, But we probably have more players around the ball or back than forward. Also many of our forwards look for the chances leading back to goal for the easy one out the back. So not up for the contest, playing from behind, not in front. Or too slow to beat an opponent to the ball anyway. Who might that be?

Unless there was a dose of some sort of virus going through the team that loss says we are at out lowest ebb since 2016…… even allowing for no Dusty and no Prestia, our midfield was completely ineffective….showed n o t h I n g .
