GAME DAY – R14 Tiges v Blues

Now callers are questioning the integrity of Broad.

Saying that ‘his moving his fingers before the ball is touched’.

Apparently it’s something we are teaching this!

Can anyone tell me what’s the rule when the ‘football hits the goal umpire in play’?

Is it play on?
A goal?

It was paid as a behind…
The common sense rule comes into play.

Not sure if the Broad one was touched but I also know that replay won't show us. As I've been saying for a long time, the players are aware that it can looked touched when it isn't, wouldn't surprise me if Broad was onto that. Genius if so.
But the arc look at different footage dont they....?

On the touched thing, I’ll be honest… I don’t think the goal review should be used for touched off the boot. That should be left to the field umpire if he sees or hears a deflection. Anything else is guesswork. The goal review should only be used for touched on the goal line or to see if it hit the post.

I don’t have access to replay but didn’t the field umpire call ‘touched’ or was that another incident. The goal review certainly stopped cartoons momentum and who knows what would’ve happened if there was another ball up after ‘that goal’. We will never know and neither will cartoon supporters

No it was given as a goal as they all went back to the centre. The umps didn't call for the review on the Newnes / Broad one. They reviewed 2 others that were weaker options to review for some reason.

let's face it, the only victory we deserved this year was sneaking home by 109 points against the eagles.
In all other cases we have benefited from umpire bias, opposition injury and unfair ARC rulings.

No, no, no - this one was called as touched by a Richmond player and was not conclusive on the replays we were shown, so, no, they don't look at other footage in this instance because, you know, they are only right all the time when Richmond supporters are questioning the decision.

Dimma talked about this at his presser.

He said the challenge when you dominate inside 50s and don’t score is that it provides lots of space at the other end . His view was we handled that well generally but there were times we didn’t and had to work on it.
This.
We had 76-51 inside 50s.
When they pepper the inside 50s, there is always the risk of rebounds.
I remember Buckley said shallow inside 50s hurt.

By high level people at Carlton she means Marge at the Princes Park canteen and Johnno in the cheer squad.
Maybe she means the Carlton crew? She probably doesn’t realise most are six feet under or in the clink. Maybe she wants to call the problem solver mick gatto?

Some of the Carlton fans booed Dusty in round one.
One of the greatest players to grace a footy field.
Their fans set new lows.
Having almost died of kidney failure and knowing the sheer and extreme pain severe kidney injury brings, I took umbrage at the booing from the human element point of view in particular.

Here's a bloke coming back from severe kidney injury playing a game of AFL footy again (AFL footy!).

It wouldn't have happened in a million years but an applause would've been fitting - the courage to come back from it shouldn't be undersold. Mine wasn't sport related, but I wouldn't have even contemplated playing a game for the Manangatang thirds after the battle of it all. Nasty, nasty stuff and to play a contact sport again is an achievement in itself. Ditto Tom Lonergan and Sam Newman.

The champion players have mostly always been booed but behind the medals and trophies that night was a person who had overcome a serious health battle to get back, and had recently lost a parent on top of that. Sure they collect the big coin and know scrutiny is part of it all, but a bit of respect and empathy shouldn't go astray.

Your kidding me, she found fault with that?? Curnow was still asking the umpire who to give the ball to when it was only Grimes there. If thats not the most obvious timewasting tactic I don't know what is. Did she bring up that the 50 was short, it could only have been about 30m.
Question is how do you return the ball when the bloke you're returning it to is walking the other way with his back turned to you. Thought that was quite interesting tactic from Grimes if he meant it.

Yep. I don’t recall any boos when Sam docherty kicked his goal against us in round 1 after coming back from his cancer battle. I saw quite a few Tigers supporters applauding it ( grudgingly myself included)

Carlton fans won’t know this - but flags aren’t won in June. They have had a good start but there is a long way to go. Their supporters are unbearable at the ground.
Blues have a tough run home. Dockers, Saints, Geelong, Demons, Lions, Pies in their last 6. Even Adelaide in Adelaide and Giants at Metricon won't be walkovers. Big chance that Carlton will miss out on the 8. Don't have a great percentage either.
