GAME DAY – R14 Tiges v Blues

A win is a win.
But gee we have concerns going forward.

Cotch is getting to the plodder pace now. Opposition players running off him at will
Prestia was enormous early, but I don’t see him too often near his man defensively. Maybe team instruction to be out?
Bolton runs one way in the midfield.
Jack Graham worked his arse off, 10 tackles. Disciplined game. Maybe our best at spotting up the lead up kick
Shorty got back a few times, but some of his disposals were shockers.
Marlion worked hard at times, but disposal efficiency started to lapse.
Edwards. Flat out running or bending over. Some good some meh.

Theres a power of work needed on our midfield. Gonna need some astute list management. Some big calls on club legends will need to be made. Cotch, Shedda, Lambo all struggling and Father Time won’t help them.

The old timers know this is their last year. Richmond men are smart, very rarely are they selfish. Astbury, Bachar, Caddy, even Grigg handled things well to let us have a mid pick. Good men, good people.
Shedda, Lambo and Cotch all know this is their last year.

Agree with you Willo, midfield is the number 1 draft/trade priority.

Saw tonight what others had seen for some time…the hatred for Silvagni! Really wanted to see Nank break him in half.
Silvagni, Cameron (the Geelong one) and Zorko - most disliked players in the league for mine. Wankers 101.

Just got from the game. I think my heart has stopped pulsing now after that last quarter.

Generally we played well, 1st half we used the ball much better, we butchered it particularly in the 3rd.
Defensively we were generally sound, but as others have pointed out we do let the ball out the back a bit. The goal review certainly switched the momentum, but the thing that annoyed me the most about that, is why the ball wasn't punched through for a behind, and why we kept it in play. Not sure who it was but it was dumb play.
Jack was very good, his defensive pressure in the forward 50 was very good, a couple of HTB's and I think it was he who pressured Durdin into the scragged kick that Rioli marked in the 3rd for his goal.
Shedda was better than he has been
I love Lambert, but he sure knows the end is coming, and its coming fast. He still knows the running patterns but he can't keep up with them
Baker, Broad, Prestia and Vlastuin - every week these guys just deliver without any fuss

I actually think the wet weather helped them somewhat, its much easier to defend in the wet than it is when its dry, hence we probably didn't score as heavily as we might have thought with the number of players out of their backline.

Cripps is a bit soft, starts a melee at 3 quarter time and then skulks out the back where no-one can get him.
Mackay is a very good player
Curnow less so. If he actually tried to be stronger than Optimus instead of playing for frees because he didn't want to fight for front position then he'd probably be better than he is. I thought he was constantly looking for cheap frees that weren't there instead of actually trying to attack the ball. Grimes was excellent on him though.

Umpiring was better, a few contentious calls both ways, we probably got lucky with the Balta slide below the legs but it was only a behind, but the goal reviews, geez. The 2 they sent up didn't need to be sent up, and they one that they didn't was the one that was overturned. Why the heck was that one from Mackay sent up in the end? Seriously, as soon as Mackay kicked it he had his head in his hands.

Spot on.
We lost the Sydney game because we don't punch the ball through.
Big V went the double fist, which was very unlike big V.
Who's our back 50 coach Teague???

i was also at the game posh. agree with your post, especially Curnow - I couldnt believe how much he plays for frees. McKay is a gun and has vicelike hands when marking.

I think it was Lynch's tackle on Durdin.
My only different thought than yours was Shedda, very poor use of the ball.

Comparing this game to round 1, I've come to the conclusion that I prefer beating them over losing to them.

You could be right on Lynch, its easy to get Jack and Lynch confused at the ground, I do it all the time haha.

Curnow was also the dumbass to give away the 50. He was stupid (no matter how much Carlton fans will complain), it was clearly out on the full, who did he think he should give the ball to, there was only 1 Richmond player there and he was still looking at the ump to tell him who to give it to.

One other thing on the Blues supporters, they don't half whinge for frees all the time. They tackle one of ours and every time its BALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL and I don't mean just a few morons likle most teams, its really loud. You get BALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, yet we've disposed of it by foot, or by hand, or they've literally just picked the ball up. No wonder they think the umps are hard on them if they think every tackle should be rewarded HTB.

Cripps is a *smile*. WTF was he going on about at 3/4 time? So he got a bit of a push. It was nothing and hardly a free. Reckon he milked it a bit to get the free.

Another protected species. Throws the ball like a rugby player but rarely gets pulled up.

It was definitely Lynch who forced that turnover.

He tries very hard to appear to be an alpha male and it comes across so contrived.

Yep he started that melee for absolutely nothing, and then as soon as he'd been grabbed he crapped his pants and tried to run away whilst he let the others get into it. Not a captains *smile* leaving your teammates to fight the battle that you started.

I'll have to watch the free back but looked a bit soft at the ground, not something you'd usually start a bit of biff about.
